Meet Hipparchus

Hipparchus is a highly intelligent guy, with a nose for numbers :) He wandered up to his rescuer's house and proceeded to make himself at home in their yard. He was bored living outside, so chewed up things and they decided they didn't want to keep him.

With a guesstimated birthday in Nov. 2019, Hipparchus weighs about 25 lb. We're guessing beagle because of his sweet bugle and boxer because of his snout and brindle patches. We make our best guesstimate, though.

Hipparchus is crate-trained and leash-trained, although he'll pull to get to smells. He's house-trained and is reliable if kept on a regular schedule. He's nervous in the car, so drools and may vomit. A bowel with a puppy pad to absorb liquids is kept handy while he rides in the front seat. Another one is spread over his foster's lap to mitigate the drool. His foster is working on his anxiety as he shouldn't be limited to his home. He loves to be out investigating new places once the car ride is over.

Hipparchus is learning to ignore the house cats and enjoys the other dogs in his foster pack. When an aggressive dog was introduced to the pack, he did react to his attack in kind, so should be protected from dogs with little social skills. He does well with polite dogs and loves people!

Whether dogs / puppies come in as strays or owner surrenders, we usually have to make our best guess as to birthdate and breed.

If adopted into a home with other animals, particularly cats, your new pet should be crated or secured when you're not available to supervise to insure a harmonious relationship.

A vet reference is required to confirm responsible pet ownership. We suggest first time pet owners look for an adult dog for companionship and to gain experience.

Adoption fee covers two vaccinations plus spay / neuter if using our local low-cost spay/neuter clinic (overnight stay required) and surgery occurs as agreed upon in the adoption contract. Convenience fee equal to refundable spay/neuter deposit may be added if using our veterinarian. Additional fees for 3rd puppy vaccination, refundable spay/neuter deposit, etc. may apply.

We are an all-volunteer, foster-based rescue. We receive no funding from agencies. Available animals can be seen most Saturdays at Tractor Supply in Lenoir from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. We recommend interested parties contact us to pre-qualify for adoption so their new furry family can go home once paperwork is complete. Fees are required in cash. For more information on our organization, our website is www.petpartnersrescue.org.
