Meet Helga

Helga is a young female GSD who came to Serendipity from a local shelter. We estimate she is about 1 year old. She is a moderate sized dog who weighs almost 70 pounds.

Helga arrived at her foster home on Jan. 4th. She is living with a 3 year old female GSD and some kitty cats.

Helga is crate trained and house trained. She rides well in a car. She has a good start on basic obedience, knows the sit command, and has good house manners (for a puppy).

Helga loves to play and will go-go-go but is also content to snuggle up with her foster mom and quietly work on a chew toy. She does well with her 4-legged sister and is fine taking corrections from her.

Helga is respectful of the cats but is curious and wishes they would play with her. She is easily redirected when she gets too excited with the cats.

Helga has typical training needs such as being reminded about not jumping and mouthing. She pulls strongly on leash. She is wary of new people and needs slow introductions with strangers. Given enough time she becomes comfortable with new people and gains a new best friend.

Helga would be happiest in a home with people who are home more than they are gone. An ideal home will have another dog who wants a playmate. A well-mannered adult dog will help to instill confidence in this girl. Helga is basically a puppy in a big body and having a dog friend will help to release her puppy energy in a positive setting.

Training, socialization and exposure to the world outside the home are must needs for this girl. Her new people need to communicate clear boundaries and set expectations so she can grow into a model K9 citizen.

Helga has not been exposed to children in her foster home.
