Meet Hattie
pet id 46656497
Hattie came to the shelter in late February and bonded quickly with a volunteer that is now her foster mom. She saw something special in Hattie and recommended her to our friends at K9 Connection as a good candidate for them to foster and use to develop their new "enrichment program" with because she is smart, driven, and likes to complete tasks and try new things. She has excellent obedience skills thanks to her time with the trainers and still goes once a week to the facility for enrichment, agility, training and playtime with her friends.
In her foster home she is crate trained, housetrained, loves her morning walks and her afternoons basking in the sun in the yard. She spends several hours a day in her crate while her family is at work and has no problems. She is great at games like frisbee and tug - these are ways we harness her herding instincts into positive actions. She loves to use her brain when she plays and is super food motivated. She rides great in the car, loves to walk in the woods and is ready to go wherever you lead her.
She lives with a young child in her foster home and does well, however, we think a home with bigger kids (13+ maybe) would be best because she has a few behaviors that are just who she is - like her tendency to herd when there's action and use her mouth on hands when excited.
She has lived with other dogs and is friendly and likes to play with them but needs her person to use her "on/off" switch. She actually was found tied to a telephone pole with her sister, and they spent time sharing a kennel together at the shelter but her sister was quickly adopted. So while we know she can spend time with other dogs, we also know her well enough to see she prefers the company of people and would be happiest in a home where she was the queen. She has shown some behaviors that make us believe unless in a very structured home with another dog she may develop resource guarding of food. She has not shown any of these behaviors towards people.
Hattie is small, about 45 pounds, and about a year old. She's a super unique and adorable mutt. She has a beautiful silky coat that's on the longer side like a shepherd but is not shedding at all this spring.
She is part of our Train-A-Bull program which means her adopters will be able to continue her training at her facility and she comes with one on one support to help her adjust to her new home.
