Meet Gordon
Say hi to Gordon! He's a two year old, 90 pound Great Pyrenees and Rottweiler mix. He's even got his DNA test results! He is neutered, up to date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped!
Gordon is a very special guy. You see, Gordon is blind, but since he seems to have been born blind, it does not affect him at all. So much so, that most people that see videos of him don’t even realize he is blind. Blind dogs can absolutely be trained and be great companions, it's just important to remember to verbally communicate so he knows what is going on, like taking a toy without warning. He just needs a different way to know what is happening.
Gordon is good with other dogs and cats. We would prefer he have a dog friend in his forever home. He does resource guard and should be fed in his own area. Gordon plays and is lazy too! He loves rope toys. He is a pretty quiet guy but when he does bark, because he is a big dog, his bark can sound mean, but he is really trying to play and find his friends! It's like his own little form of Marco Polo! His foster simply just tells him to knock it off and he comes running in his goofy way to cuddle up with you!
He is low energy and if he had it his way he would love to be around his family all the time. However, as long as there is no food or trash he can get into, he is not destructive and can do just fine alone. He just prefers to be with his people. He is house and kennel trained. He would do best in a home without small children simply due to his size and since they move unpredictable, which is hard for him to sense.
We courage you to do a little reading up on blind dogs! We think they will surprise you with how great they can be and Gordon is certainly ready to show you how much of a loving, good boy he is.
