Meet General

SANCTUARY DOG: Extremely reactive as a result of harsh conditioning.

General is Sanctuaried with us due to extensive health issues and age. Please consider a small donation for General's care.

The story below is about how General came to TIRR, the place that is his "forever home".

Hey, everyone! My name is General. I came to TIRR Rescue from New Jersey back in 2018.

My owners sent me to a trainer who didn't treat me well. When I came back, I was very fearful and would bite without hesitation or reservation if I thought something was a threat. I ended up biting someone I thought was trying to hurt me, so my family sent me to TIRR Rescue to find a new forever home. My rescue people think I'm finally ready to find my someone special.

I get along well with some dogs, especially if they like to run and play! However, I am very much a house dog; I don't like to spend much time outside, especially in this nasty Texas heat. I am still very hesitant around new people. I will need a very experienced owner who understands that I don't like strangers and will need to be monitored whenever someone is around.

If you think you could be my forever family, be sure to contact my rescue people!

PERSONALITY:
General will need a very experienced owner with extensive Rhodesian Ridgeback knowledge. He was treated badly by a trainer, and it left him fearful of new people. He will need an owner that is willing to set him up for success - meaning no crowds and no visitors without crating him - and work with him through his fears. He will bite if he perceives a threat and has no other means of escape. While he does have a bite history, he is very sweet and playful with the people he knows well. Due to his background, only adopters who have previously owned Rhodesian Ridgebacks will be considered.
