Meet Gena

Looking for a sweet, medium energy red head to join your family? Look no further, Gena, is the girl for you. She is a solid 28 lb., 4-year-old spayed girl that loves to be with her people. Velcro dog all the way! She was found as a stray in Georgia and made the trip north to York, PA to live in her foster home. She is shy at first, but once you gain her trust, she will love you whole heartedly.

She loves to run and hop in the backyard, snuggle on the couch, chase jolly balls and fetch stuffies. She likes to chew the ears off of her stuffies. She is good about entertaining herself and enjoys chewing cow hooves, beef cheeks and Himalaya chews.

Gena plays well with her foster brother and is respectful when he doesn’t want to play. Her crate is her calming place and she in there to rest and eat her dinner. Currently she sleeps through the night in bed with foster parents. She gets zoomies but doesn’t need excessive exercise like a typical cattle dog. She does nip when she gets excited, but has been taking redirection well. She grabs at your clothing and tries to herd you to play. She has done well so far with our cat who is very dog savvy. She has seen rabbits in our yard but hasn’t shown interest in them. She is great at giving hugs and always wants to up against you.

Walks are scary because of all the new sounds and sights. She prefers to play in the backyard over going on adventures. Getting her more comfortable with other dogs, bikes, cars, and people will need to be a slow process. She tries to run away from them. House training is improving but expect regression when she moves into your home. Currently we take her out frequently to avoid accidents. Basic obedience skills like sit and stay will need to be worked on. We have been focusing on building her trust and not pushing training. She flinches to quick movements so she was likely abused in the past. She has not been around children.

She is up to date on her vaccinations, microchipped and on preventatives for heartworm, flea and tick. If you would like to learn more about Gena, email her foster mother at zacharysmomheidi@live.com. If you would like to adopt Gena, please submit an application her:
