We have gleaned many awesome dogs from near and far, of all ages, sizes and breeds who need homes. And we need to make room in our fosters and at our Adoption Center to get ready for the busy summer season.

If you're looking for a playful friend for your dog, sweet mama dog Gemma is your girl! This small gal (such a great size at only 30 lbs!) adores chasing, wrestling and tugging - with dogs, cats, and humans! - and then happily conks out on the couch for TV time.

Gemma's a lovely hound mix who came to Homeward Trails in late January very pregnant. She and her seven pups have been thriving in a foster home, and now that the kids are all adopted Gemma is ready to find her forever people.

Gemma's been an incredibly easy addition to her foster household. She happily goes with the flow, getting along with everyone. She gives joyous waggy greetings to her favorite people, and is thrilled if you pick up a toy to toss and tug. She will so happily join you on the couch or the bed, resting her chin on your leg.

Probably because she didn't see much of the world before she got here from rural, VA, there's a skittish side to Gemma. She'll greet new people, but it takes a bit for her to truly warm up to them. While she loves leash walks in the woods, she's nervous when those walks bring her around cars/trucks/strangers. That's why her ideal home would have a fenced yard - so those leash walks are optional at first -- and somebody home a lot who's happy to have a shadow all day!

While we bet Gemma could learn to love little kids, right now we suspect they will make her a bit nervous. When Gemma feels confident, she becomes hilariously goofy and zooms around.

She is house-broken, and is just beginning crate training - is happy to go into a crate to enjoy a nice bone. She is a dear girl who has been such a responsible, loving and fun mom to her Gemstone pups. Now it's time to find her a soft landing in a new life.
