What is your name? Hi, I’m Fern!

How old are you? My vet thinks I’m around 18 months old, so my birthday is probably in the fall of 2022.

What do you look like? I’m so pretty! I’m a pretty red-brown color with tri markings and part of my coat is even brindle! My eyes are a very pretty light amber color; my foster mom thinks they’re so bright they glow sometimes! I’m really unique and pretty. I’m around 53 lbs. When I first came to my foster home, I had momma boobs but they're shrinking up now that I don't have puppies anymore. I was DNA tested and I’m 52.1% American Pit Bull Terrier, 37.8% American Bully, 5.8% American Bulldog, and 4.3% Bulldog! Cool, huh?!

What do you like to eat? When I first came to my foster home, I was a little picky with food. However, now I LOVE to eat! My mom mixes my kibble with some wet food to keep me interested and excited in eating, but she thinks I probably don’t even need that anymore! I could probably be just fine on a good kibble! She likes to spoil me and I ain’t complainin’. I wasn’t familiar with treats or how to take those from a human, but I’m learning! I take them from her hand now, which is huge because I wouldn’t even consider that at first!

What kind of personality do you have? I can be timid at first, but I warm up quickly! Once I’ve figured out that you’re an okay person, then we are BEST FRIENDS FOREVERRRRR! I love to spend time with my people, but I am also VERY playful and goofy. I LOVE other dogs and am desperate for them to love me back.

Describe your perfect day: My perfect day would include some cuddle time with my trusted human, as well as some playtime with another dog! I’d also love to just relax with a chew (like an antler or Nylabone). It took me a little bit to understand what a chew is, but now I think they’re awesome!

What is your favorite toy? Right now, I’m most interested in chews instead of toys. I’ve been a little confused on what toys are and what you do with them. Maybe I’ll learn one day!

Do you know any tricks? I’m gonna level with ya….I really don’t. My foster mom has been trying to teach me my name and to teach me to sit, but it’s a little tricky when I don’t care about treats a lot. I’m a smart girl and will catch on, but I just need a little time! I’ve really caught on to potty training and I’ve done awesome with that, so I can definitely learn more things!

Do you like cats? I do! Well….kinda…I’m actually a little afraid of them! I met a cat at my vet’s office and I hid behind my vet. A few weeks later, I met a cat in a foster home that kept me for a weekend and I would barely even walk past their cat.

Do you have any doggie best friends? I’m pretty determined to make any dog that I meet my best friend! I’ve met a male bulldog mix and I-LOVE-HIM-SO-MUCH-OMG-YOU-GUYS. He was a little unsure of my antics and tried to tell me off, but I’m convinced he’ll come around. I also met a female pit mix and a shihtzu and I was desperate to get them to play with me. I try really hard to be respectful, but some dogs might think I’m a little bit of a clown.

If you could be anywhere in the world, where would it be? I’d be playing with a friendly dog or cuddled up with my trusted human! Even though I can be slow to warm up to humans, I really do love them! I’m great with kids too, but my foster mom is careful to make sure that only respectful kiddos get to interact with me. She doesn’t want too much chaos to scare me!

How is your health? I’m doing great now! When I first came to my foster home, I had giardia, another parasite, and a UTI, but I got over those with some awesome meds. I got spayed on Valentine’s Day (haha) and healed up really well. Before being spayed, I had bloodwork done and my heart checked and both are perfect according to my nice vet!

Who do you live with in your foster home and who is your closest companion? I live with my foster mom and her 3 dogs. She hasn’t let me meet one of those dogs because that dog is a bit of a brat and she just wants to protect me from that. My closest companion is probably my foster mom, but I really love the other dogs here too.

Where do you hang out when you are home alone? I hang out in my crate! Crates were weird to me at first, but I go in my crate for meals and that helped me like them! Sometimes I whine a little bit if I’m in my crate and I hear that someone else is home, but that whining only lasts a few minutes and then I settle down.

Where do you sleep? I sleep in my crate or if it’s a really special night, sometimes I con my foster mom into letting me stay in her bed! I sleep in my crate most nights, though, and I do really well!

What was life like before you were rescued by Even Chance and brought into the welcoming arms of your foster parent?
Good question. My foster mom was contacted about me and my puppies when the weather was brutally cold in January. I was living outside and a nice man was trying to keep me fed, but people were worried we wouldn’t be okay as the temperatures dropped below zero. I was with a pack of dogs who were all just trying to make it out in the cold. My foster mom was told my other puppies had found homes, but people needed help with me and one of my puppies. So, she and another nice lady drove to rural Missouri and picked me up! I was pretty hesitant of everything at first, but I definitely decided that I like the finer things in life like a comfy bed and warm blankets! My foster mom isn’t sure how long I was living outside, but my vet thinks I had 1-2 litters of puppies, which is still a lot for me just being 18 months old. While a lot of my backstory is unknown, I’m VERY sweet and I really want to be able to trust people.
