Meet February
February is a 2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier currently being held at the Kern County Animal Services - Bakersfield Shelter. She has been at the shelter since February 6, 2024, and is ready for her new home.
February went out on the streets of Bakersfield, a foster for a day program. Here are her notes:
"?February? will melt your heart. I had her out of the shelter for the day and she was such a good girl. She absolutely loves the car! We went to lunch and she quietly hung out on the restaurant patio. Young kids came up to pet her and she just calmly sat and was so happy to be pet by them. When we were at the park an off leash dog ran up to us and she was totally fine, nothing but tail wags. She's very affectionate, gentle when taking treats, has the cutest nose wrinkles, and would make a wonderful family dog. February is about 2 years old and 47 lbs. She is located at Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield, California. ID- A1196451"

Companion Animal Protection Services (CAPS), a national nonprofit based in Thousand Oaks, CA., is partnering with Kern County Animal Services in Bakersfield to find homes for high risk dogs, The shelter has more than 300 dogs and puppies in two metal warehouses with no outdoor runs. Dogs over five-months-old are at high risk for euthanasia because of lack of space and too many abandoned dogs in the community.
Please contact CAPS if you are interested in adopting, rescuing or fostering, and we will make sure the shelter contacts you. They do not answer phones or respond often to voice messages due to understaffing. Foster homes must be in Kern County. The dogs are in Bakersfield, not Thousand Oaks.
