Fam English Bulldog Cedar Rapids, IA

Meet Fam! (Nickname Harvey) He’s a real nice guy that has exactly zero manners or indoor dog skills. He’s approximately one year old and was found as a stray. He’s so very handsome and loses all ability to hold up his own head or keep his eyes open when you start rubbing his big blocky head.

He does great on a leash and loves going for short walkies. Emphasis on short. He thinks maybe he might like to learn how to snuggle but when allowed on the bed he just kind of awkwardly stands over you like he doesn’t know what to do next. He’s done great with kids but would do best with older (10+) because he has no boundaries or control of his big body yet. He’s also dog friendly but would be best matched with a similar or larger sized dog that shares his enthusiasm for rough play. (Our chihuahua and elderly bulldog have not been impressed with his tom foolery)

His ideal home would have the time and patience to work with him on his lack of manners and skills. He’s not afraid to climb up on your table and clear the plates, tight rope walk the back of your couch, climb into the shower with you, disappear with your shoes (he also likes chapstick, baby dolls, books, and tiny characters from Frozen), and all around just be a menace.

Despite requiring a lot of redirection, he has a lot of great foundational qualities. He’s been great with neighborhood kids coming and going, he doesn’t mind having his nails trimmed, or taking baths. He LOVES having his face cleaned and has so far been non-reactive to vacuums, blenders, and other loud noises.

We’ve had him for two weeks and he is starting to show signs of wanting to guard us from adults entering the home or trying to meet him on walks, so he will need to be properly socialized and worked with to make sure that behavior doesn’t become problematic.

Last but not least, he is an escape artist. He can clear a baby gate like it’s nothing. Even after you’ve built a really impressive barricade on both sides. If your kennel doesn’t have reinforcements he will get out of it. Because of his desire to chew things he shouldn’t he does need to be kenneled when not being closely monitored. I think he would benefit greatly from doggie daycare and training classes.

We look forward to finding Fam his perfect dream home and know that he’s going to be a really awesome dog for someone.
