Meet Evie

Meet the Indomitable Evie! This little darling came to us in early-ish October; too young, too small, deaf, mostly blind, and completely unaware of any disadvantage! As of 11/13, she is 9-10 weeks old and hitting all of her developmental milestones like the little champ that she is. While you might worry about her lack of hearing and vision, she is fearless, curious, and most importantly, adaptable. She does not know any difference, and with gentle guidance, she is doing just fine. She lives on an acreage with 5 dogs, and 2 horses, and is well-traveled already. She does not know a stranger, and she is always eager for a new experience. Evie is the most amazing study in dogness. She naturally does the things she should be doing, even though she cannot see them modeled in the other dogs. She is taking cues, including "Stop it", from the adult dogs. She is playful, and sometimes, sometimes, sometimes, she is still and will snuggle(asleep). What makes your home the right one? You should probably not have a pool. We do know that she swims, and we learned that unintentionally, but she cannot see where to go. While she does love all people and has been handled by many children, children and their friends leave doors and gates open. Evie is adventurous, so not the safest combination. She is active, and so should you be too! You will want to give her the appropriate mental and physical stimulation. Evie is a baby puppy, so you must have the time, and time at home in the early couple of months-no puppy this age should be home alone for the normal workday. You will want to commit to some training. The deafness and blindness require only mild considerations, the bigger issue is that she is smart, curious, and independent, so you will want to be able to channel it. If you have other dogs, they need to be ones with good social etiquette and a little patience to coach a puppy, and a puppy who needs just a little clearer communication. The good news is she communicates well and pays attention. You will want to have a supply of real, heavy whipped cream in a spray can. It is part of her morning ritual. Blue shoes. You will need blue shoes. Suede might be fun. She(all dogs) can see that color well, and she sees shadows/light, and movement. We are off leash a lot, and she follows my feet, and she prefers the blue shoes. You should not have a pitiful attitude towards her. She does not have time for you like this. She wants a pal who is creative and adventurous, but who will also make sure that she is safe. Applicants must be within 15 hour's drive of Austin, Texas. Our best home will be experienced with raising puppies, as she is one. You must have time for a puppy. While we think it would be nice for her to have a good role model dog, it is not necessary-she has plenty now. However, she is not a solution to entertain your existing dog. Evie deserves someone who will invest in her potential, and we will want you to participate In a training program that we select/approve. It will never be appropriate for her to go to doggy daycare playgroup. She would rather do something with you anyway. Evie is current(to date) on her shots, she has been wormed. She is due one more round, plus rabies, as of this edit, and will be spayed when she is old enough. Applications may be submitted at www.dalmatianrescueco.org Adoption fee $400. If you have additional details or questions about Evie herself, you may contact jane.delre@tcctb.com.
