Greta is a sweet and friendly girl who is happiest snuggling in your lap in the winter or stretching out on the deck in the summer. She loves leaping to catch squeaky toys and running around the garden at full speed for five minutes. Then she's happy to curl up again and watch out the window or listen to the sounds of birds.
Greta was rescued at the age of 2 and she has come a long way with her training. She sleeps in her crate all night and is safe and comfortable staying in her crate during the day if necessary. She's still in her rebellious teen years and she's an opportunist, so giving her the run of the house if you're not around will lead to chewed up Kleenex boxes (her favourite badness) and missing baked goods (she swears she never saw them).
She has learned to sit, stay, lie down and come. She is very food motivated and responds positively to treats and verbal cues most of the time. Consistent training and her approaching adulthood should settle her into a well-mannered member of the household.
Greta loves to meet new people and is comfortable with children. She mostly ignores kids but tries to steal their stuffed animals and their snacks. She is fully house trained and doesn't bark when people come to the door. She occasionally barks at dogs out the window but is learning not to.
She has learned to walk on a Halti lead without much pulling, with treats as motivation, but Greta's insecurities come out when she is out on walks. She can be skittish with passing cars and will need patience and consistent training to manage her reactivity with other dogs. She has lived with other dogs in the past, and with careful introduction, living with another dog could help teach her social manners. Because of her size and strength, she would do best in a home with an experienced dog owner with the strength to match her size.
All in all, she's a big girl with a big heart full of love.
