Elsheba Shepherd & Hound Mix Palatine, IL

When you were a kid, did your mom tell you watching scary movies would give you nightmares? Well, Elsheba’s mom told her the same thing, but she didn’t listen! She’s binged watched a series of horror movies and now she’s afraid of…well, everything! She spooks easily, but deep down she knows it’s all in her imagination. Yes, deep down she knows that she can trust most people -- she just needs a little reminding. Would you help remind her how kind and loving humans can be?

Sometimes, Elsheba forgets to be scared. She loves playing in the yard with the other dogs, finding Kongs & chew bones in the toy bin, eating hotdogs and cheese, and occasionally napping on her human’s bed. She’s still learning which activities are acceptable; for example, counter-surfing (what fun!), or which “toys” should be chewed, but she is receptive to gentle reminders. When she does feel unsafe, she finds her crate a great comfort and loves sleeping in it at night.

Elsheba is a young, smart Shepherd/Hound mix. At just one year old, she is quickly learning commands by picking up cues from the other dogs in her foster family. Her favorite subjects are “come” and “sit” -- maybe it has something to do with the snacks she gets when she gets it right. As much as she loves learning, she also enjoys teaching; she’s instructing her humans that whining and pacing means it’s potty time and they need to take her out.

Elsheba’s longing for a person she can lean on, someone who will cuddle her on Halloween night and remind her that humans and dogs are safe, and that the spooks are all in her head. Will you be that person?

NOTE: Elsheba will do best in a single family home in a quiet neighborhood.
