Meet Dottie
Hi, my name is Dottie! I'm a RED pawprint, which means I need an experienced home that meets some specific criteria. Here is what would work best for me in my new home:
-Personality: HIGH ENERGY PUPPY, playful, active
-Can Live with Kids: Older teenagers ages 14+
-Can Live with Cats: No, I chase cats
-Can Live with Dogs: Yes, I could potentially live with a PUPPY-TOLERANT dog after an initial introduction at the shelter and a prolonged introduction process in the home.
Apartment Living: No, I am a HIGH ENERGY dog who will need plenty of space. A home with a fenced yard is preferred.
-Potty Trained: No
-Bite History: Yes, Dottie was adopted previously and broke skin with her very sharp puppy teeth. Puppies can become mouthy with improper mental stimulation, we have been working on her training in shelter and she is doing so much better
-Positive Reward Based Obedience Classes Required: Yes, a 6-week puppy course
-Energy Level: High! I will need lots of exercise, playtime and mental stimulation!
-Needs Medical Procedure Before Going Home: No
-Additional Information:
Dottie is a high energy puppy who has been adopted and returned to the shelter twice now. It's very unfortunate that she has been shuffled around so much at such a young age - that much change and stress would take a toll on any dog, let alone an energetic young puppy in need of stability. Both times Dottie was surrendered, it was done before she was ever even taken to her training classes. Dottie would benefit greatly from actually attending positive reinforcement classes and learning the basics with her new owner. She's a young impressionable puppy that will thrive with training and patience.
Dottie is a husky mix with an abundance of energy. She's going to need lots of exercise AND mental stimulation to keep her happy. Her perfect match is an active dog-experienced person looking for an adventure buddy.
If you are interested in adopting, please fill out an application on our website (www.whatcomhumane.org/adopt) or in person at our facility. We recommend calling into the shelter after your application has been submitted so our front desk can give you next steps on our adoption process.
