Dottie Australian Cattle Dog / Blue Heeler Chesapeake, VA

Meet Dottie, your typically fun filled 16 week old heeler puppy! She has been doing fantastic with her time in her foster home learning all kinds of skills and commands. We've found her to be very playful, affectionate, social yet slightly independent, and smart as a whip. She has been doing very well with crate training and potty training, although she still needs frequent potty breaks to help prevent accidents. Dottie has been living with a large group of dogs that range in personality and play style, she has excelled with all of them! Her favorite friends so far are a 110 pound Newfoundland and a young Border Collie, so having a playmate would be great for her! She has also coexisted with a cat, but with her playful antics she tends to chase her and doesn't take corrections like swatting or hissing. She may be able to be trained as she gets older to leave the cat alone, but she's shown strong herding instincts and prey drive from the start.

She has socialized with a good group of people from adults to children, and although she's slow to warm up sometimes she's become curious and affectionate with most of them. Kids do tend to make her a little more uncomfortable, but that's just a matter of more socializing and exposure. She's very adventurous and likes to run around the large backyard and front yard, but she still needs to build confidence out in public places. At her age and where she came from, it's very normal for her to be insecure, but with time and training she will easily grow out of it!
