Dakota Pit Bull Terrier Mix Mechanicsville, MD

Dakota has been waiting for a home since September 2022. She is a sweet girl that we want so much to find a loving home for. While we do our best, her stay here is more like she is in boarding then being with a family. Although we keep our rescues in our home with us, they live by rules and guideline to protect them, the public, and us. We try to give them all individual time every day. We even have volunteers that come by and walk Dakota when they can.

We rescued Dakota in September 2022 with a group of other Pitbulls from a high kill shelter in GA. Dakota is the only one from the group that has not been adopted. We do not understand why she has not gotten more attention. She is a beautiful tan/gray/black brindle, which is usually very popular. She has just never had any real interest.

In the summer of 2023, we sent Dakota to stay with a foster. During her stay there was an incident with the foster's dog and Dakota has been fearful and nervous around other dogs. However, she is not reactive, she tries to avoid interaction. In March 2024, she completed a 2 week board and train program to build on her skills. Dakota is smart and understands the commands. However, she can be stubborn and try to resist. The trainer believes Dakota will never be comfortable around other dogs again.

Dakota loves adults and children and is an attention seeker. In fact, she likes to be the center of attention. She is calm and well behaved, but loves to play and do her zoomies. She is actually very comfortable entertaining herself with toys. Long leash walks are her favorite thing. She would be great for someone who walks or jogs regularly. She also loves to ride in the car, rv, and on golf carts. She does bark at other dogs and people when walking or in the car but will stop with a quick correction.

We are hopeful that we will find a match for Dakota soon. In an effort to attract more attention to her, one of our supporters is sponsoring her adoption so the adoptive family will not have a fee to pay.

All of our meet and greets are by appointment, and we require a completed application from potential adopters before scheduling one. We are offering a foster to adopt program for Dakota as well.
