Hi! I’m Daisy and I’m a snuggly puppy. Curling up next to humans on something soft, or hanging out near them in a soft dog bed is my jam. I’m a curious young pointer who is pretty smart and catch on to anything you want to teach me pretty quickly - I’ve already learned the basics in my foster home as well as the adorable “paw” cue. However, some things make me a little nervous still and I need people and other animals to give me time to get to know they’re ok to be around. I’m actually pretty calm for a very young pointer, my foster mom says, but I do get wiggly and excited and jumpy when I see a person I know and love!

I like: snuggling with humans, soft places to lay down, belly rubs, predictable things to happen, a chance to get used to new things before I have to interact with them, a human I know is very safe to be around, safe soft beds to hang out in, nylabones and kongs to chew on, working for treats in training, my humans to be around much of the time. I’ve gotten used to hanging out with my foster sister and enjoy playtime with her, but I prefer to eat separately from her. While I don’t LIKE my crate, I’m good about going into it and staying in there if I have to, but I’ll tell you when I need something!

I’m getting used to: new novel things that I think are a bit scary and chewing ONLY on things I’m supposed to, sudden loud noises

I struggle with: rapid changes and novel situations, sharing things I really love

Foster mom here! Daisy is a very snuggly, sweet young Pointer who needs a little time, love, and a gentle human. She takes a lot of time to show her true self in new environments and will need patient humans during this process. She does only have one eye having lost the other in an incident with a cat when she was very young. This seems to be the source of some of her fears, I think she has little depth perception. I was told she climbs fences and has killed chickens in the past as a very young dog as well. She has some puppy behaviors (housetraining’s going well but still working on chewing only appropriate things, etc) but is pretty darned chill for a young Pointer - she will happily lay down to chew a nylabone or other sturdy, safe chew toy all on her own (power chewer alert! She’s defeated a black kong!). She’s about 46 lbs but is not quite done growing yet - not much more to go, though. She’ll make a great companion for someone who’s home more often than not, who, if they have other dogs, is willing to make the introductions slowly and gently, and who has a bit of patience for some of her quirks. She may not ever do wonderfully in a dog park or doggie day care environment, I think. She is NOT cat tested, but with her history with cats, I’m hesitant to do so. She does seem birdy when outside, but isn’t likely ever going to be a good hunting companion with one eye. She would likely be better off with only older children in the home. Larger, louder humans do make her a little nervous, but she’s gotten used to the ones here in her foster home with time. She does enjoy playing with our resident Pointer now after some struggles at the beginning, but doesn’t seem to need another dog to play with to be happy.
