Post:

Exciting news! We are now taking applications for our near and dear Tony!
As many of you are aware , Tony is the Great Pyrenees found abandoned at the end of Lords Meadow. Over the last 2 months we have learned so much about him and his dreaded past. He hasn’t ever been placed with the proper owner, has been continuously re-homed or dumped. So now here we are looking for his forever.

He is a livestock guardian dog (LSGD) whose breed is to guard/protects. Tony hasn’t ever been a working farm LSGD but still guards. He grew up with children and learned to guard the children. We enlisted a local trainer thru All Bright Canines to help with proper correction in hopes of curbing his guarding behavior. He has been attending weekly one on one training at both their facility and the shelter. The trainer will also be giving his new family some guidance. He is a 100% Great Pyrenees so guarding isn’t uncommon for his breed. Fact is, once Tony knows you….he will love you.

More about the Tony we know today! He is an amazing, smart and loyal dog who loves his people.
This big guy weighs in at 93 lbs, is 5 years old, neutered and up to date on shots. Tony is playful with toys, loves to go for car rides, take a walk and is guilty of loving people food. He has proven to be a big, laid back mush ball who just wants to lay and hang around people he is familiar with. He is completely housebroken and walks well on a leash. Tony has also proven to be shy of new people, it takes him sometime to warm up. Could be 10 min, could be multiple visits, men do take more time. With time, positive reinforcement and cheese (loves cheese) he comes around on his terms. He has many people that we have properly introduced him to and come to visit him weekly at the shelter. We can’t thank them enough for giving Tony the love he deserves! Oh and Tony favorite part….treats. Tony has made it his job to sniff thru all the donations and have first dibs.
Tony’s ideal forever family would require previous experience with LSGD or extensive dog experience, take him on car rides, give him lots of butt rubs and be the center of his people’s universe. He needs a quiet home and does best with a routine, structure and someone with leadership to uphold the rules for him. He is like a child, give him a foot he takes a mile. Due to his size and guarding we feel it’s best to place Tony with no children, dogs or cats and fenced in yard to safely romp around in. He will also require multiple meet and greets to become comfortable with his new family.

Please understand we are being very transparent and doing our best to ensure Tony is placed in the proper future home.
