Cooper Maltese & Terrier Mix Temecula, CA

Cooper is an adorable 4 year old, 15 lbs Maltese/Terrier mix. She (yes, Cooper is a girl) was turned in to us after her elder mother was unable to care for her. When they got her as a pup, they picked her out and named her before they checked what gender she was. Once they realized she was female, the name had already stuck. We considered changing it to something more feminine but Cooper knows her name well and we figured her next adopter can pick out a new name if they'd like!

Although Cooper gets along with other small dogs and cats, she really loves her person. She attaches to someone and then will literally never leave their side. She will even follow you into the bathroom and keep you company there! She won't go outside unless you go with her, but she loves going for walks and then cuddling on the couch and sleeping in bed with you. Cooper always wants to be touching you while she falls asleep and we often wake up to her hugging us. (Pics above). She also loves to give kisses! If you are looking for an independent dog, Cooper is not for you. If you want a little shadow who will be your biggest fan and best friend, then she might be the perfect fit! Because she is so attached to her person, she does have some separation anxiety and we would like to find a home where someone is home most of the time. Although our application asks how long she will be left alone, please fill that out as life would be after the pandemic and you go back to work (if you haven't already gone back).

Cooper came to us with no training and whenever we correct her, a simple blow in her face will redirect her focus. Anything more than that would be too much for her. She is a sensitive girl and really does want to please. We are working on housebreaking her and she is learning, but she still has accidents sometimes. When she does, she always goes on a potty pad though.

Cooper is also a bit picky with her food. She is currently eating kibble, but we add in a small spoonful of wet to coat it so she will eat it all.

She is current on vaccines, microchipped and we just got her groomed so she should be good for awhile. We had to go a little short because she had a lot of mats. She will need regular brushing as her coat grows back out to prevent that from happening again. Her coat is very soft right now!
