Meet Connie - Reduced Rover!

Hey, I’m Connie! I try not to brag, but the fact is I am a Gorgeous American Bulldog mix with a stunning white coat, piercing blue eyes, and an adorable pink spotted nose.

I am spayed, up to date on vaccinations, and though I was once high heartworm positive, I have emerged triumphant from slow-kill treatment! I'm now heartworm negative!

I was pulled from a brutal animal cruelty case and brought to a rural shelter... terrified and alone, when Take Paws stepped in and brought me to safety for the first time in my life. Because it’s been a rough road getting here, I take my time to warm up and trust people, especially men. It’s best for me to meet new creatures while I’m securely in my crate. Safety was never a feeling I was afforded, so I’m still learning every day what that feels like. Though it takes time for me to let my guard down, once I have built that trust, boy oh boy, will I make your heart melt as I show you the true cuddly 60 lb lap dog that I am!

I cuddle, give hugs and kisses, and melt right into your arms. My white coat is no coincidence, because I strongly believe in my role as your self-appointed guardian angel. As your guardian angel, I always want to protect you, and I don’t take the job lightly. This can lead to me showing some protective guarding and defensive behaviors towards other people and dogs that come near. I have to make sure you’re safe! And I am selective about who I deem worthy of being near me, because I know what a special girl I am! Tools like muzzle training and crate training have been very helpful in my journey of learning to trust others for the first time in my life. Take Paws wants my future family to be just as successful as my foster parents have been, so they are covering a training session with a professional dog trainer and my future family to help us get to know each other!

I am eager to please my person and very food motivated, which makes me a very good student. I love taking long walks, and I love love love playing and snuggling with my puppy foster siblings. I follow my foster mom around the house everywhere she goes; I am a wonderful and attentive companion, always looking to offer support. I wouldn’t do so well in a busy household house with young kids, other adult dogs, or cats, but I am very maternal with young puppies and I love my people more than anything in the world. I’m an amazing girl to have on your team, but I need someone who will be patient and understanding of my past trauma, and willing to work with me long term. Please let me know if that’s you!

If you are interested in meeting and/or adopting, the first step is to please visit our website to complete an application and read all of our FAQs: https://www.takepawsrescue.org/adopt

**An inquiry/question on Petfinder is NOT an application. All known details about our animals are posted on their profile and updated daily. Other info would be discussed in detail with the foster during the application review process. Due to the number of inquires received (hundreds daily) we ask you submit an application on our website (a single application can be used for any dog with Take Paws Rescue).

The adoption fee for adult dogs covers age appropriate vaccinations, microchip, spay/neuter if not yet performed, heartworm test & appropriate heartworm treatment by the rescue's vet. All dogs in our care are also kept up-to-date on HW/Flea Prevention. Please see our website for more information.

Connie is part of the Reduced Rover Program at Take Paws Rescue. Her adoption fee is discounted to $100 and includes a training session.
