Conan Shih Tzu Scarborough, ON

Conan is the sweetest boy. He joined Mattie's Place underweight, about 13 pounds, so we're working on some weight gain for him a few pounds or so to get him back to a good body condition score.

He's 4 years old, born 9/2/2019

He was overdue for a groom when he arrived, so we had him groomed at Dogfather & Co. and he tail wagged the entire time, he was so happy and felt so fine and fresh.

Conan had a dental completed and 8 teeth removed April 2 and his medical is now complete.

He is already neutered and we brought him up to date on vaccines when he arrived.

Conan is a bit shy with new people but overcomes it quickly.

He is not a fan of children and will lift is lip at toddlers, showing his discomfort, so a no kid home.

He's a lower energy boy that is just so sweet and kind and friendly with everyone he meets including canines (he lived with other dogs in his original home). I'm not sure about his cat experience, but he's such a nice dog I can't imagine there would be a cat issue.

A quite home in a quiet area would be best for Conan. He's being fostered in the downtown core and though he's managing, I don't think it gives him the most joy and something lower-key would be best for him. Also, a home with a secured fenced in backyard would be a great gift for Conan. His owners also lived in an apartment and I don't think he's had the gift of a backyard, so this is not a requirement but preference would be given to Conan for adopters with a backyard as he's such a sensitive guy I think he'd really appreciate it.

Some housetraining is still a work in progress and though there is only the occasional urine accident now at his foster home, he could revert back in housetraining so will need a home that is patient and understanding to that.

Conan is just a really nice dog that deserves a really nice adopter to love on him and give him an incredibly rest of his life.


FROM HIS FOSTER

Konan is a really quiet dog. He isn’t too excitable unless you get down on the floor with him and give him belly rubs. Other than that he enjoys being close to me, but isn’t extremely clingy all the time. He has a very chill, sweet demeanour.

I usually take him out sometime in the morning for his walk. Depending on the day it could take a little while. But if you encourage him and take him to the right spots he’s a joy to walk outside.

He enjoys lounging on the couch during the day and plays with a couple of his toys from time to time. He’s so quiet I often forget he’s in the room with me. Later I take him on another walk, before dinner around 6-6:30.

He can be wary of new people, but is overall friendly. I’ve taken him on public transit and he’ll be calm if you hold him in your lap or give him signs that you’re near. He’s really happiest when he’s not overstimulated and is able to have alone time from time to time.
