Meet Cody

This is from Cody/Ozzy’s rescuer:

I saw Cody wandering the streets about 3 weeks ago. He seemed to be waiting for someone as he stayed in the same area until about 1 week ago when I began bringing him inside. I had asked neighbors if they knew who the owner is, but no one claimed him. One family said he just showed up one day. I feel he may have gotten loose and couldn’t find his way home. The reason I think this is because he is so well mannered and so smart. He behaves as if he has been well cared for, and he has a great personality. I decided to take him in and try to find a good home for him.

Here is what I can tell you about him:

Cody gets along well with women, children, small dogs. He does chase cats, squirrels, and birds. I think it would be easy to break those habits with just a little instruction. He is skiddish around men who try to approach him, and people who are wearing hoodies.
I think someone like that was not kind to him.

He Is protective but not aggressive.
I was taking Cody and my 17 y/o Poodle for a walk last week. Two stray dogs tried to approach us. Cody got between me and the two dogs. He crouched and as the dogs got closer and he stood his ground. He only backed off when the other two dog turned and left. He has behaved in a similar way on several other occasions. I also get the impression that he was being trained as an emotional support dog as he stays right by me. He knows commands sit, shake, and down. He’s gentle when taking treats, and he picks up on behaviors I’ve taught my own little dog. Sometimes there’s a real possibility he may understand Spanish or language other than English and that I’m not giving him the words he can understand.

He tries to play with make shift toys. I’m working on getting him some toys so I can teach him some fun games.

Cody has such a sweet disposition and I would love to keep him, but I have health issues that have slowed me down, and I believe he would have a better life with a family that has more energy and possibly other pets and children.

I’d be willing to foster Cody for a short time until a family can be found. I think I could make it work until then. I can’t bring myself to take him to the shelter.

Of course the idea situation would be for someone to adopt him and rock his world!

(Note from Homes for Pets Board Humane society.
Cody is now neutered, and up-to-date on vaccinations, heartworm negative, and microchipped. He’s ready for his new humans!)

If interested in adopting this sweet guy, please go to our website homesforpets.org and fill out one of our dog adoption applications for him. We will get back with you as soon as we receive it!
