Description:
Clinton is a beautiful sweet dog that loves lots of outside time in a good size yard where he can point birds and chase squirrels. He is a medium energy boy.

Clinton is deaf but that does not present much of an issue, as he is very used to checking in with his humans, so when you want to call him for a walk or his food, he will see this quickly. He is very smart picking up sign language for these items, and then comes running. Since he is deaf and a bit of a velcro boy by wanting to know where you are, it would be best if he is in a home with a doggy door, so that he can check-in, but also spend his time in the yard without his human continually having to open and close doors.

He is not startled when touched unexpectedly, he seems to see touching as a positive thing, and will not react negative when being touched to get his attention, whether his attention is elsewhere or when he is sleeping and you are waking him up.

He is fully housetrained and sleeps nicely through the night on the foot of our bed. He might also benefit from having another dog as a companion, as deaf dogs benefit from taking queues from a buddy.

Our setter Zach tried to play with Clinton, but he does not seem to understand what all this play-bowing and hopping around is meant to do, so he might not be good as a wrestling companion, though he did not react negatively, but just stood there dumb-founded.

Clinton is quiet in the house, but can bark at squirrels in the trees or dogs walking by the fence. He walks next to me on an easy-walk harness, but could benefit from more extensive leash training that allows him to explore more on walks than walking so tightly by my side. He likes to touch you when he's snoozing by your feet as he wants to know when you are moving, but in bed he likes to curl up by himself and just sleep deeply and calmly. He enjoys some lap time at the end of the day, snuggles in and likes to give sloppy chin kisses. He folds his ear back, sometimes both, like he's TRYING to hear. It looks adorable.

For the first few weeks after adoption it's important to make sure he does not escape through gates and doors, as he tries to follow you. He gets better with that as he learns routines of his humans, but with kids this would be important to make sure he cannot get out. Clinton is a good boy when we leave the home and waits quietly for our return. He rides fine in a crate on car rides if he can see you. We don't crate him at home, as there is no reason for it and we would not recommend a home where crating is necessary as he might get anxious.
