Meet Chuck

~DOB: 5/1/2021
Weight: 70lbs
Energy level: Moderate
Overall drive: High
Location: Bellingham, WA

Chuck is a young man that needs a job! He is moderate-energy and high drive and loves his ball more than life itself. Dont let the first two sentences fool you, he does bond very quickly with his person and becomes their shadow almost instantly! He has developed a very nice off-switch and only needs about an hour of work a day.
If Chuck was human, he would be an MLB outfielder catching every ball that comes off the bat and doing the traditional air snap in anticipation! He also does it as a look at me, let's play type of attention-getter. While he is food-driven, he is very gentle about taking food from people, and will lick your hand until you give up the food. Chuck is a confident dog who has strong opinions and has never shown any signs of fear or skittish behavior. Affection from his hander is part of the deal, once training or playtime is over, he wants to be on the couch or bed with you or will snuggle up with a nearby pillow if one is available.
Chuck rides well in the car and usually sits looking out the window observing the world until he gets bored then he lies down and sleeps. He is well mannered at the vets office and is not fazed by loud noises unless they are paired with a movement of some kind, and then he wants to go investigate what is going on. Chuck has been great with visitors in the home with proper introductions and will come and sniff them. He will accept pets but does not seek them out. He has given two men who went to reach for him an alert bark but warmed up after a few treats were given. #BroAskToTouch
During Chucks time in foster, he has mastered Sit, Load Up, On your feet aka stand, Get Dressed (nose in muzzle), Down, Out, Come, Sit Pretty, Spin, Back, Focused Heel, Contact Heel, Fly (go around object), Cato (platform), Get Ready (between legs), Six (between legs facing rearward), Weave, Orbit, Target, and Get Me a Drink commands. He is diligently working on mastering his focus and contact heeling. If given the chance Chuck will raid the trashcan but tells on himself by bringing you what he finds, also no counter surfing just sniffing. #MomLookWhatIFound Chuck does well in a crate but will need a sturdy crate such as a Ruffland or Impact as he can escape a wire crate. He shows no signs of being destructive other than unstuffing toys. He shows signs of minor resource-guarding over his toys and food, he can exist around the foster non-toy-driven dog but might get froggy and feel the need to compete around another high toy-driven dog.
Chuck is looking for an active forever home that can employ him in some sort of job like detection, scent work, SAR, etc. A home without children and possibly an adult or a person who works from home, but he has shown that he is capable of being at home 8-10 hours a day if there is ample mental and physical training completed before and after to burn off the energy. His foster spends about an hour a day working the energy out of Chuck (20 minutes in the morning of training, and 30-40 minutes of training and play at night) and will need someone committed to continuing his training.
