Meet Chloe

Chloe is one year and 8 months old, a male Basenji, Labrador Retriever and Formosan Mountain Dog Mix from the country of Taiwan. He currently weighs about 47 pounds (as of 1/30/2024) and is fully grown. Chloe arrived in the USA on 11/25/2023 and has been living with our foster family in North Wilmington Delaware since then. Chloe is not a hypoallergenic dog, but he sheds very little.

Chloe’s rescued story:

One day at the end of August the year before last, it was the hottest time of summer in Taiwan, Chloe was abandoned in a wealthy community in northern Taiwan when he was about three months old; he was covered with fleas and ticks, as well as some skin disease. Fortunately, he was soon discovered by a resident in the community and being rescued.

Even more fortunately, this resident is a dog rescuer herself, and has rescued many large breeds and disabled dogs on her own for more than ten years. She is also a very responsible rescuer, and always does her best to let her rescued dogs live in the best foster home and get proper training before the dogs find homes.

Chloe's completed medical information:

Luckily, Chloe was a healthy puppy except for underweight. Before coming to the United States to find a home, Chloe passed the following medical tests: Distemper, 4 Idexx (Heartworm, Lyme, Ehrlichia, Anaplasma Phagocytophilum), CBC, Biochemistry blood work, and PCR tests for diseases and infections transmitted by fleas or ticks. He has x-rays on hips and joints that are very healthy; he does not have hip dysplasia. He also got teeth cleaned on 11/14/2023.

Chloe is micro-chipped, neutered, de-wormed, up to date on all vaccinations including rabies shots. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventative treatment. All Chloe's medical documents including the x-rays films on his hips will be given to his adopter when he is adopted.

Chloe’s temperaments and personality:

Since being rescued, Chloe has lived with two different foster homes in Taiwan, training his ability to adapt to different environments. Both families have dogs, one of them also has three cats and two teenaged children; Chloe gets along very well with cats and dogs of different sizes. After coming to the USA, Chloe soon found a seven-year-old black male dog friend in his foster home in Delaware; they run, play, and wrestle together and quickly became good friends.

Chloe has the temperament of a Labrador Retriever that loves people and is submissive. He also has a great temper. All foster parents from both Taiwan and USA said that they have never seen Chloe get angry with people, cats, or dogs. Even if he is playing with toys, and other dogs want to snatch his toys, he would immediately put the toys down and let the dogs have them.

Chloe is still very young, very playful, and likes to jump around; sometimes his movements are bit rough. But strangely, he becomes very gentle when he is around the little children.

One day the foster mom in the USA took Chloe to visit her friends who have a 4-year-old daughter. Originally, foster mom was a bit worried that Chloe would knock their daughter down. Unexpectedly, Chloe was very careful and friendly, and he was quickly loved by their daughter. When she does not see Chloe, she will say, “Where is my Chloe?”

Chloe LOVES food, and has a great appetite; so far, we have not found any food he does not like. For example, most dogs do not like bananas or pineapple, Chloe eats them with gusto. But Chloe is very polite. When he sees people or children eating, and he also wants the food, he will sit down and wait patiently. He will not rudely grab or steal from children or the food they put on the table.

Chloe rarely barks, but when he is excited to go out to the bathroom, play with dogs, or when he is scared, he will make growling sound. People who are inexperienced with dogs may mistakenly think that he is unhappy and growling. In fact, this is the sound he makes unconsciously.

Chloe is a natural-born loving, sweet, affectionate, and happy dog; he loves to cuddle up to his foster mom and falls asleep next to her.

Chloe is not shy around strangers and not nervous in a new environment either. He will greet strangers and want to be pet, especially if they have food.

Chloe is 100% housebroken. His first foster mom in Taiwan praised him very much, saying that Chloe had never had any accidents in the house since he was three months old.

Chloe lived with the first foster family for ten months, and the family was close to a beach. Almost every weekend, foster parents would take Chloe and several other fostered dogs to play at the beach, so Chloe became a swimmer. Foster mom said that Chloe’s favorite thing to do at the beach was to look for dead fish to eat, so the car smelled like dead fish on their way home.

Chloe is not food or toy aggression or possession. He is not afraid of thunder, lightning, or fireworks, and does not have separation anxiety either. He loves car rides and is very well-behaved in the car; he is a great companion for road trips.

Chloe is very playful, active but not energetic. He loves going out for walks and meeting different people and dogs. He walks well on leash but will excitedly pull the leash when he sees other dogs because he wants to play with them. Chloe will be doing well with the moderately-highly active family without children or with quieter children older than 4 years old.

We hope that Chloe will have a loved and fun life in the future. We hope that Chloe’s new parents can include him in your outings, short trips, or vacations besides daily walks in the neighborhood, or playing in the back yard.
