Meet Chloe

January 18, 2024 Re-introducing Chicagoland Eskie Rescue's Miss Chloe! We have temporarily taken Chloe's listing down in order to spend more time working with her, plus giving her a lot of space, time, and patience. In her previous home Chloe was an only dog, with a small busy family, happy being a homebody because this is all she knew, and without many visitors, therefore having limited people in her life. Chloe has had a very difficult time transitioning to her rescue family/foster home, but thankfully over the recent holidays she has started to come out of her very protective shell! She is now more willing and happier about socializing with her immediate caretakers!! This has been such a blessing to see her start to open up and let her guard down! Chloe has foster dog siblings, but she is not crazy about it. Having been an only dog, she is learning to "tolerate" the situation, but she does not enjoy being with other dogs....she would much rather be an "only child" and have all of the space and attention to herself. She is much less tolerant of females dogs. She tolerates our rescue dog (also available for adoption) named Fitz the best; he is a senior boy that does his own thing, is independent, and naps a lot, so he really does not invade her personal space. So too sum this up, we have been working on Chloe’s social skills.

Chloe is a 7.5 yr. old female Eskie, weighing approximately 22 lbs. Her height is about 15” (measured at the top of the shoulder) so on the boarder of Mini and Standard AED.

As indicated above, Chloe is very slow to warm up to new people, environments, and situations. If someone new approaches her with intent to touch her (especially if they move in quickly) she will growl, snap, and bite if she makes contact. She gives warning and makes it very obvious that she is not comfortable, saying “back off!” This is exactly what a dog is supposed to do = let you know that they are not ready yet! I can’t say that I blame Chloe, I wouldn’t want strangers coming up to me, touching my head, and running their fingers through my hair either! LOL! Chloe needs an Eskie experienced owner, someone who can be patient with her and give her the time she needs to bond. She needs a calm, adult only home. We prefer a home with a securely fenced backyard, this way Chloe has a safe space especially during transition and adjustment (to her new home and family) so she doesn’t have to encounter more strangers, etc, during multiple walks each day. A fenced yard will give her new owner/s the ability to in-turn give Chloe a protected area to exercise, needing less “hands on” while bonding. The good news is that Chloe is very treat motivated! She is also crate trained and housebroken. Once Chloe bonds, she is very loyal and affectionate. She loves belly rubs! She also loves to take walks and gets excited when you get out her leash. She is most comfortable walking alone, without neighbors joining you, and avoiding direct approach of other walkers by, for example, walking on the opposite side of the street, going in a different direction, etc. Let’s say, Chloe is a bit of an introvert, something to embrace and not fight against! Acceptance for who she is, is the name of the game! We feel that since Chloe is making progress in her foster home, she will be able to transition again and probably somewhat quicker. Chloe will come with some initial challenges, but she will become your best and unwavering friend. Chloe’s biggest and most important requirement is simply ~ patience.

PLEASE note, Chloe's listing "highlights" - not good with other dogs! Chloe does not want to share her home with another dog, she will do much better as an only dog, only pet! No dog parks, no visiting dogs. Taking leashed walks with her owner is perfectly fine! Thanks!
