This is Charlie! He is a neutered 10-12 year old Maltese X. He came to New Leash Rescue as an unclaimed stray that was at a local impound for a month waiting for someone to help him. Based on his behavior, we think he was a puppy mill dad- living a better part of his life in a crate or pen. He walks in circles and paces around the house. He has a heart murmur and has had echocardiagrams a dental cleaning and is up to date on all of his shots, heartworm testing, and bloodwork.

Outside potty training has been a challenge. He uses pee pads and is successful only about 50% of the time. He will go potty outside, but it takes him time.

Charlie would love to go to a home with another older dog. He really looks to the dogs for guidance. He loves to follow them around and takes cues from them. He would not do well as a single pet based on his background.

He has moments of pure joy and hops around with crazy zoomies! He is learning to be a loved member of a family!

Do you have a place in your life for this sweet boy?

Adopters will need to continue to monitor his heart along with consistent dental care to keep him happy and healthy as well as regular grooming.

Adoption fee is $350+ tax (no checks)

Foster to contact: Birdie 651-247-5991 or bmullarky@yahoo.com

Please contact the foster to learn more about this dog. He is not planned to attend an upcoming adoption event.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely going to be different than that in their foster home.

Sometimes there is more that comes out about a dog's personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
