Meet Cami (SD)

Cami - 6 years old, located in SD
Rescue ID#: 230564-P-B-KY
Intake Date: May 17, 2023
Available Date: 10/6/2023

Cami is a 40 pound black and white beautiful girl. Her foster parents affectionately call her Cami, Cookie Cami (because she reminds them of an oreo blizzard), and Camster. She is heartworm positive and is currently undergoing treatment in her foster home. She was found as a hungry stray with another pointer in Kentucky, so not much is known about her history. She is estimated to be approximately 6 years old and has been spayed and is up to date on her vaccines. Cami does need to eat alone as she does have food aggression.

Cami is a very sweet and affectionate girl who loves people including kids! She still has the typical energy of an English pointer and enjoys running around in a fenced yard. She is very interested in anything that moves - butterflies, birds, tall grass blowing in the wind, etc!!!! She does show pointing instinct and may enjoy hunting; more to come when she finishes her heartworm treatment. But she has adjusted to living in a home so well, and she does enjoy being a couch potato and snuggling with her foster parents or lounging on her dog bed with toys. She has done exceptionally well with potty training in the house and has rare accidents now. Cami does well in her kennel during the day while her foster parents are at work. She usually sleeps in her kennel at night time but she has convinced her foster parents to let her sleep in bed some nights too!

Cami will need careful and slow introductions with other pets. She did come in as a stray with another English pointer; they were in a kennel together at the shelter and got along great except they were separated to eat their meals. She has met her foster siblings one at a time including the resident cat, another resident English pointer, many labradors, and a puppy. She can be anxious and growly at times with other pets, but we are working on that! Stay tuned for updates on Cami!
