Meet Callie

Callie is an independent, older gal. Her foster mom says Callie is calm and low-key, but still has some puppy energy in her. She loves to flop and roll around on the couch, get belly rubs, play tug, and take naps on top of her humans. She’s a total lap dog! She does extremely well in her crate but isn’t destructive at all if left uncrated. She sleeps peacefully through the night every night, and doesn’t mind one bit if her foster parents want to sleep in on the weekends. Callie knows “Sit” “Paw” “Down” and “Come” and has recently learned some excellent leash manners with a professional trainer while in her foster home. She has never had an accident in the house and will “talk” to let her foster parents know when she needs to go outside to potty. Callie’s foster parents especially love her little underbite, which gives her a permanent “pouty” bottom lip. Coupled with her freckles and extra expressive ears, she’s just the cutest thing on four legs.

Though Callie is an adult, she still loves to learn new things and be challenged. She enjoys interactive toys and to solve puzzles. She doesn’t let her age hold her back! She loves a slower-paced walk around the neighborhood and to make friends with all her neighbors. She is particularly fond of older folks, and has never met a stranger! She goes to work with her foster mom once a week, and enjoys napping in her office and befriending everyone who stops by.

When Callie ended up in a Kentucky shelter earlier this year, the staff estimated her to be 11. However, her vet and her foster mom agree that Callie is probably closer to 6 or 7 years old. Callie is not fostered with other dogs, but has done okay with other dogs at our events as long as she's given enough personal space. She could potentially live with another independent, lazy dog. Callie is fostered with two dog-savvy cats and does well with them. She’s a big girl and can get excited, so it’s important for the cats to have their own space to retreat to if they get overwhelmed by her. Homes with children 12+ would probably be best, but we'll consider all families.

Callie is the best of both worlds — a mature, independent lady, who is still loving and affectionate. She loves attention, but is also totally content to hang out solo and sleep the day away when her foster parents are busy. Give this girl a chew toy, a couch or comfy bed, and some forehead kisses, and you’ll be besties in no time.
