Meet CALLAHAN

THIS BIG SWEET BOY IS GOOD FOR YOUR BLOOD PRESSURE

He is about as chill as they come.

If you love big derpy dogs, is this guy ever going to make you smile.

Callahan is never in a hurry and was made for strolling. His favorite thing to do, is just hanging out with you. If you are outside, he will find a spot to lay in the sun or perhaps mosey around inspecting the yard perimeters. Inside he will lay by your chair (well, that is after he tries to get into it with you and is told he's too big for such things) He is built like a tank, in that he is wide and low but he is also a little squishy and perfect for bear hugs and couch cuddles. This boy is seriously hard not to want to hug, and he is always down for a little gentle snuggle or a pat on the head

We got Callahan from our vet clinic, where one of their clients brought him in.
He'd been hanging out near their property, for several days and neighbors said they'd seen him here and there, for nearly a week. This client has large protection dogs who were doing their best to try and run Callahan off, by hollering at him through the fenceline, but Callahan just laid there, staring off into the distance, completely unimpressed and unapologetic at the chaos he was creating. He had an injured paw, so it was decided he should be taken to the vet to be looked at and checked for a chip and to keep the peace on the property. When no chip was found, we were called and well,..

...one look at this big ole lover boy and we couldn't help but say yes, to taking him on.

His hurt paw ended up being a cheat grass seed that had burrowed in and caused an infection. It cleared up nicely with antibiotics and a good cleaning. He also had a couple ugly skin tags that had granualted so those were removed as well plus, at his neuter, he got his teeth cleaned up too.

He's a brand spanking new man.

Callahan is currently living in a foster home with a bunch of other dogs, of every size, gender and personality and has done well with all. Before he was neutered, he fancied himself a ladies man, which got him into trouble with the girl dogs but he took their remonstrations in good natured stride and respected any male dog, who wanted to let him know, they were there first, and he was the new guy. His favorite play buddy is a big female Doberman mix and they love to play chase and wrestle until they are both exhausted.

He also is living with a couple dog savvy cats and does well, though he does not appreciate their affectionate rubbings and will snark at them, to save his dignity. He has also been around the horses there and pays them no mind.

It was clear when he first arrived, that indoor living was new to him. Doorways into the home were portals to unknown and forbidden dimentions that were not to be passed through but soon enough, he discovered that life in that other dimention, was pretty dang cool. He stared at the TV for twenty minutes on his first night hanging out as an indoor dog, as if it was the most fascinating thing he had ever seen. He is a good boy in the house, largely just wanting to lay on the floor where you are. He did try to mark a few things, in the first few days but hates being scolded, so decided to save that activity for the great outdoors where it doesn't get him in trouble.

We are pretty sure Callahan is at least part lab but what else is in his genetic cocktail is pretty puzzling. He dearly loves to follow his nose, so there could be some beagle. (for this reason, he should probably have a securely fenced yard) His body is wide and low, like an English Bulldog and he has the nose of a Shar Pei, and the cutest tail. It is full length so never docked but still, quite short and he loves to wag it. The people who found him and brought him to the vet, said they would donate a DNA test, so that we might unravel the mystery and we shall update his bio, when that happens.

Callahan is also a very good traveler, once you get him into your vehicle. He is not particularly athletic or inclined to feats of athleticism, so he needs help getting in the bigger vehicles. He is good on a leash, just going with the flow at an easy stroll. He is not the dog for joggers or extreme hikers, but he would enjoy exploring nature at a leisurely pace and would probably make an awesome lake side fishing buddy.

We have not had him around a great many kids but so far, what we have seen is that he is cool with them until they run and scream. Then he gives us reason to believe his black and white coloring, might be from Border Collie genetics, He wants running or screaming children, to stop it and will chase and stare them down, to get it done. For this reason, or until we have had more time to assess his child worthiness, families with younger children are probably not a good idea.

Callahan is about 7-9 years old and weighs a very solid but not fat, 70lbs. He has hair like a labrador, with a nice oily outer coat and thick insulating undercoat. At his dental cleaning, unnatural wear on his molars, was noted, but he did not need any extractions and all are in good shape and sparkling clean.

There is just so much to love about this guy. He is loveable, gentle, slow moving (though he can be quick when he wants to be) easy going and easy to be around. He has a big heart, a quiet demeanor but will bark if something is amiss. He has learned to crate, very nicely and while we will not guarantee 100% housebroken, is well on his way. He loves treats and takes them gently, is not a fuss pot about food, and loves his pigs ears and bully sticks.

So if you think Callahan sounds like the dog for you, please go to our website at www.allmuttsgreatandsmall.org/adoption and submit our online application. We want to hear why this guy caught your eye, and your heart and what your plans are for him. It will be a very lucky person, chosen to call this guy their best friend

Callahan is neutered, up to date on five way and rabies vaccines, fecal checked clear of parasites, flea free and microchipped. His teeth are clean and his skin tags removed and hes ready to bring the Zen, into your life.
