Meet Buddy

Buddy
2 year old black lab mix

Buddy is a sweet 2 year old Black Lab. He would be a wonderful addition to any family. He is great with dogs, kids, even babies and toddlers. He plays with the two resident dogs well and likes to be close to them and his foster people at all times. Buddy does resource guard food with dogs and needs to be fed in a different room. He has no issues with people touching his food but he doesn’t like to share with other dogs. Other than resource guarding food Buddy does great with dogs, he will even share toys.

His foster family does have a cat, Buddy is a little too interested in her, he wants to play with her which often turns into him barking at her and gently swatting her head. Due to this I think he would do best in a home without cats.

Buddy is a well-rounded dog, he is great in the home, very respectful of his environment and is house trained. Buddy is calm, gentle and is content to be a couch potato or play outside with toys.

Buddy came to Paws United with a broken hip and underwent Femoral Head Ostectomy surgery (FHO). This surgical procedure aims to create a pain-free future by removing the damaged ball and socket joint by leaving an empty socket. Scar tissue forms around the femur and cushions it creating a false joint. The prognosis of the surgery is very positive, 95% of animals who have undergone this surgery live life without complications. While Buddy underwent the surgery, the doctor did notice he does have arthritis. He will eventually need to be monitored for that as he ages.

Don’t let the surgery scare you off, Buddy is healing amazingly well. He is ready to run and play but due to the surgery he needs to lay low for the next month or two to ensure he heals safely. Buddy is good about relaxing on his dog bed in a ray of sun by the window or enjoying his snuffle mat.

Don’t let this amazing dog pass you by, he has so much love and affection to give.
Buddy is fully house trained and crate trained. He came to Paws United from Quebec through the Northern Dogs Project. He has been neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, dewormed, heartworm tested, and treated with nexgard spectra.
