Meet Bowie

Bowie is an absolute treasure. We simply can’t imagine the terrible circumstances that forced someone to give him to a shelter. He is a well-trained, snuggly, wiggle butt who is definitely smarter than a 4th grader!

He is estimated to be about 3 years old and he is a muscular 45 lbs. He truly loves life! He greets every morning with sheer joy.

In the months we have been fostering him, he has settled in and shown us his nature. Luckily we have had many visiting dogs and another foster so we’ve been able to test him in a wide variety of situations.

We have learned that he prefers smaller female dogs. We recently fostered a 5 month old cattle dog and he absolutely LOVED playing with her and sharing his toys and bones with her. They would run in the yard together and wrestle in the house. One of our resident dogs is an 18 lb. female chi mix and he invites her to play frequently – and never tries to take anything from her. He has mad respect for her. Females his size or larger are not his faves.

With the males he is less interested. He is not aggressive in the least, but he’s also not looking to be their bud. So Bowie’s forever home is one where he is either the only dog or in the company of smaller female dogs.

Now about the toys. He has a SERIOUS need for toys, bones, etc. all the time. He is rarely without a toy or 2 or 3 in his mouth. His forever home will need to keep him stocked up. He doesn’t rip toys up too frequently, and he’ll carry they around even with the squeaker has died. He just has to have something in his mouth – toy, bone, antler, ball. He loves his jolly ball!

Bowie isn’t the kind of dog who will be happy at home while his people go to work 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. He isn’t wildly crazy active but he definitely needs mental stimulation, a session of tugging, or vigorous fetch or frisbee daily. He would most likely excel at some structured activity like nose work or agility. So if that doesn’t sound like your current situation, Bowie is not your man.

Bowie is neutered and up-to-date on shots and preventatives. He is good on a leash and fine with a crate, although we don’t use one with him any longer. (He likes to sleep on our bed at night.) He never chews anything inappropriate.

He is being fostered in Langhorne, PA, about 40 minutes north of Philadelphia.
