Meet Bert & Ernie

If you're searching for the most loving, silly best friends, these boys are the pair you want to have around!

Bert and Ernie are a bonded pair, so they must be adopted together. They love each other very much and would be so very sad if they got separated.
Bert, who's ears flop down at the tips, is believed to be 3 years old and he is a whopping 7 lbs. Ernie, who's ears reach for the sky, is believed to be 2 years old and only 6lbs. They are believed to be Chihuahua / Italian Greyhound mixes. We are unsure if they are siblings or related in anyway, but as you can probably guess based off how they look so similar, we assume they must be!

From Bert & Ernie’s foster:

“These boys are so fun!! They are SO happy all the time and always wagging their little tails. They’re so friendly and sweet and they love each other so much!

Bert and Ernie are doing great! They are happy cuddly guys. Ernie is a total love bug. Bert is just a little reserved, but still so sweet. They have both had baths and their coats have really brightened up.

They like to bark at and chase the squirrels in my yard, but are mostly ignoring my chickens only occasionally trotting over to see them. No real interaction with my cats yet.

My sister's 8lb Chihuahua mix puppy is here today because I told her I would babysit him today before I knew Bert and Ernie would be here, and they are all doing great!

Bert and Ernie are doing pretty good with pottying outside, Ernie did a little pee inside today and tried to yesterday but I caught him before it happened."

These sweet boys were found as strays in Carlsbad, NM and brought into an overflowing shelter. Farfel's Rescue helps take dogs from this shelter often, and we couldn't resist helping these tiny, itty bitty boys.

We understand that not everyone is looking to adopt two dogs at one time, but with a bonded pair like Bert & Ernie, 2 is truly easier than 1! They have each other to play with, to cuddle, and to occupy.

Farfel's Rescue and our New Mexico rescue partners would love to see Bert & Ernie in a home with an individual, family (older kids are preferred so there's no tail-pulling or awkward handling) or active retirees who have the time and love for a very loyal and sweet dog. We'd hate to see them left alone all day while their family works full-time outside of the home, as they are much too social for that type of arrangement.

We'd like to place this sweet pair in a home where they'll get consistent stimulation, exercise and love. A (virtual or in-person) positive reinforcement group training class promotes great behavior, bonding and confidence for these young guys. Training is so important in the future behaviors of every dog. It's for this reason that we're unwilling to adopt to a family that doesn't make this loving choice. Farfel's is happy to provide a list of both in-person and virtual positive reinforcement / force- free trainers in your area.

Bert & Ernie have been fully vetted, are in great health, up to date on their vaccines, and neutered.

Farfel's Rescue is a fully foster based rescue, and offers a one week trial with every adoption. We feel that this is much more beneficial to not only the dog, but the adopter too. We believe that only getting 20-30 minutes with a dog before deciding on a lifetime commitment is not a fair amount of time to the adopter, or the dog. Therefore we give adopters one week with the dog to assure it is the right fit, and offer a full refund of their adoption fee should it not workout within the week trial.
Farfel's Rescue has been doing adoptions this way since 2005 and is thrilled to adopt out ~400 dogs each year.
