Hi there, I'm Beags! I'm the cutest little fella. And I'm sweet and shy and playful too. Sometimes I feel like I've already lived a lifetime, while other days, I feel like I'm just getting started. Life can be crazy like that, with a mixture of feelings and emotions that are hard to figure out. I'm still learning so much about life, and the big world can sometimes be a scary place. The one thing I've always been able to rely on is my friendship with my dog friends. Maybe you have another dog who needs a playmate? Well then, I might be the perfect match for you.

I'm a darling, 1 1/2-year-old Beagle mix, with big paws that make me look like a puppy, even though I'm fully grown, and soft, floppy ears. I have a silly, unassuming personality to match my good looks. I'm even already fully housebroken, and I've been practicing crate training too. My life has been crazy. I was adopted from a local shelter last fall, but that home wasn't a good fit for me. I quickly found myself all alone and so afraid. Several people tried to help me, but I eluded everyone. The KC Dog Trappers eventually got involved, and after tracking me for 2 months, they caught me and brought me to safety at Wayside. I felt terrified and relieved and confused all at the same time. And exhausted. And hungry. One of the people who rescued me ended up being my foster mom. I will never be able to repay her, but she understands. She just wants me to find that special new home that I long for. I hope it will be with you!

New people and situations and environments are scary to me, so please give me a little extra time to settle in with you. If you gently praise and encourage me when I'm a good boy, I'll learn my new routine as my confidence continues to build. In foster, I get to free roam in the house with the other dogs most of the time, even when no one is home. I'm well behaved and I don't cause any trouble. I like to patrol along the top of the couch, keeping an eye out the back window for deer or other wildlife. When I spot something important, I let out a pure Beagle howl. At night, I sleep in the bedroom on my dog bed without making a peep. My favorite things include other dogs, toys, and chew bones. I'm not comfortable around people just yet, and I don't like to cuddle one bit. Foster Mom says I just use her as a means for food and getting outside. Ha! I do like to do my own thing, and I guess I prefer her dogs over any of the people I've met. Still, I'm happy to see her when she gets home, wagging my tail in excitement. I just like her to keep her distance, that's all. She understands.

I love running and playing in our big fenced backyard! I am a flight risk, though, and I need you to be dedicated and committed to helping me stay safe. I will need to be on a leash or in a securely fenced yard whenever I am outside, and I need a home with a fenced yard. This is very important to me. I like to use my Beagle voice, so no apartments for me. I live with several other dogs of various personalities in my foster home, and I love each of them. I will need a home with another friendly dog to show me the ropes and teach me all about life. When Foster Mom's dog savvy grandkids stop by to visit, I retreat to my safe place. Kids just make me nervous. I'm looking for a calm and quiet home without a lot of commotion and with kids over the age of at least 6. Please bring the whole family, including kids and other dogs, to meet me before we go home together, to make sure we're all a great match for each other. I'm not an affectionate sort of dog who wants to be doted on. I hope you will be understanding and tolerant of my quirks and insecurities.

I'm so glad that Foster Mom and her friends never gave up on me. They couldn't leave me out there on my own. My life mattered. That feels so good to say! I'm really just a simple little guy, searching for a calm and peaceful home where I can hang out and play with my dog friends. That's all I need!

Love, Beags
