Meet Bailey! He is a quirky boy who is searching for a special place to call home.

Bailey is an out-going, friendly boy with a bit of a stubborn streak that is made up for with his affectionate, loving side. He is a snuggle bug and loves to cuddle up on the couch with his humans.

Like most Aussies he has loads of energy but time running in his yard with the other dogs helps a lot. Bailey will do best either in a rural environment (with a fenced yard - being deaf means he cannot hear you call him back), or a very quiet sub-urban area. Like many deaf dogs, Bailey barks. At a lot of things, but mainly at passing cars and people. In a busy area he would make for unhappy neighbours. In his current foster home, he does really well as it is a quiet area with less passing by his fence to bark at.

To go along with the "less busy area is best", on walks Bailey will jump at cars and pull on his leash when he sees cars/people. He has come a long way in this regard but it will be on-going work likely for him.

Someone interested in on-going obedience will love this boy. He is very food motivated and is willing to do many things for a cookie! He has those Aussie smarts and learns quickly!

Bailey is a food guarder from both people and other animals. He does not like to be touched while eating and his foster currently feeds him in a crate. This solves the problem of anyone (or another animal) being tempted to interrupt his meal time. Pop his dish into his crate, let him in to eat, he comes out, get his dish. All done! For treats he doesn't mind sharing and takes them gently from you.

He is 100% deaf but knows many hand signs and would love to learn more if you'd like to work with him on this. He currently knows, 'sit', 'paw' 'other paw', stop', 'come', and 'good boy'.

Bailey does NOT like to be crated but he is a good boy in the house and is fully housetrained (he gives clear "gotta potty" signals - barks and circles). He is good with people and happy to meet strangers but likes to be the one to initiate contact. If someone pets him or gives him a lot of attention when he's not ready he gets over-stimulated easily.

Are you that special home for this quirky boy? He is NOT the dog for every home. He needs a home who understands that sometimes the "lethal white" breedings result not just in deafness or blindness but often times leave a dog a little...well...quirky. Like Bailey! Quirky is NOT bad, just different. A person who will be committed to giving Bailey loads of time to settle in (like 6+ months) and will learn his quirks and work WITH him and not against his quirks is needed. He is a nice, nice boy and needs someone super special to be his person.

If you feel you are that person, please visit our website at www.herdaboutrescue.com and fully read our adoption process found there. Then please fill out the online application, also found on that website, before sending an inquiry.
