Axel Doberman Pinscher Byron, IL

Axel is a large-sized year and half old super handsome Doberman who weighs about 75 pounds.
He is a sweet, sweet boy with a big personality. He loves to run and play in the yard and is a pretty happy-go-lucky pup. He is your typical Velcro-boy and his favorite thing to do is lay on the couch next to you, with his head in your lap. He absolutely loves his “people”.
Axel previously lived in a home with several small children and another dog. He would probably do best in a home where he is the only dog or would be happiest with another dog of his size and similar laid-back personality. Axel will require a home without cats or other small pets, as he loves to chase squirrels, rabbits and birds.
Axel does not counter-surf and has not been destructive to bedding or furniture, however, he has been known to decapitate some of his “stuffies”. He loves his treat ball which we fill with some of his kibble and has quickly figured out any puzzle toys we have given him.
His previous owner crated him overnight and any time they were not home. He will bark for awhile when he first goes in but will eventually settle down. We have not crated him overnight and he sleeps through the night right next to us without any issue. His foster mom works from home and so far, he has been a great co-worker. He has proven to be very trust-worthy and will lounge on the couch or recliner most of the day. Although there are times when he becomes quite talkative and wants to join in on her conference calls.
Axel is still a puppy at heart and is still learning. He knows a few basic commands and will sit nicely at feeding time until you give him the “ok” before he begins eating. He takes treats very nicely and is very food motivated. He is currently on a Purina EN/bland food diet for a sensitive stomach.
Axel will need a home with a fenced yard because he gets the ‘zoomies” and loves to run and run and run. An owner who will make a commitment to training will be required and will not only help instill structure and confidence, but also help him develop a strong bond with his family.
Axel is current on all his vaccinations and has been neutered. He will go to his new home with his favorite toys, blanket, leash/collar, bed and some food to help acclimate him.
