Atlas Great Pyrenees Ankeny, IA

In February, Atlas was found with a group of stray adult and young Great Pyrenees right off a highway near Springfield, MO. No owner came forward for them and all of the adults and puppies were rescued.

6 month old Atlas' personality really shows through in his photos. He is such a handsome goofball! We think he's part Aussie with his one blue eye and one marbled eye (half blue/half brown) but he definitely got the Pyr genes as he is independent of thought and listens when he wants to, communicates his needs & desires, and uses his Pyr paw for attention! Atlas enjoys being with his people most of the time and loves being petted. If you're sitting on the floor he will plop down on your lap- all 50 plus pounds of him! He enjoys a game of mouthing on your hand/arm so a variety of soft toys, chew toys and bully sticks are a welcome distraction. Atlas will let you know if he's been left alone by calling out as if to say, "Hey where did everybody go? Atlas welcomes meeting new people, adults and kids alike, and enjoys the companionship of other dogs. He really needs a canine companion in his home to play with and keep him company when you're not home. Atlas uses a leash and harness for neighborhood walks and walks well when he follows along with the other dogs in his foster home. Doing pretty well with potty training, however Atlas is a boy after all and needs frequent reminders that it's time to go outside. Speaking of outside- boy does he love to be outside!

Adopters can be located in Missouri and surrounding states: Kansas, Arkansas, Nebraska, Iowa, and Illinois. We are able to help transport to those states.
