Meet Aster

Aster (12/10/2019) is a Rhodesian Ridgeback/Pitbull mix who, from the start, has shown us at Muddy Paws that she is a survivor! After beating the Parvo virus at a young age, Aster knows nothing can stop her from finding her furever family! Instead of just surviving, she wants to THRIVE in her furever home. Aster has a smile that lights up a room and wants to make all sorts of different human friends. On the other hand, only the most ruff and tumble dogs will be able to handle her preferred play style. She wants to wrestle and put on a show that rivals the theatrics of WWE Smackdown! Since Aster thinks "the show must go on....and on....and on," she may be more relaxed in a home where she can be the only dog. A home with cats or other small animals is a no-go for Aster since she thinks those kinds of animals only exist for her to chase them (we don't have the heart to tell her the truth). As energetic as Aster seems, she also wants to cuddle with her favorite humans and might even choose a movie night on the couch over a night out on the town. However, the fact that she gets motion sick in the car at times might also be a factor in making that decision. Relaxing and enjoying the peace and quiet is something Aster will never take for granted! Aster feels both scared and compelled to assert herself when loud noises or commotion occur. Even a neutral noise like the sound of hands high-fiving can remind Aster of danger, so she would have less stress in a home that has more of a calm, relaxed vibe, most likely with kids over the age of 12. Aster is both very treat-motivated and very smart, so she has lots of potential to grow in confidence and learn that not all noises mean her alarm bells should be going off and someone needs her help. Aster has a few other things of concern that she would like to address: 1. Other dogs who happen to be out on a walk when she is also out on a walk. How dare they. Are they safe dogs? Aster doesn't know, but she feels like she needs to find out. 2. Nail trims and baths. Enough said. But basically, these involve lots of noise very close up. This is not Aster's cup of tea. 3. Kennels. Aster thinks of kennels as her very own escape room enrichment puzzles. So she needs an Alcatraz-type kennel to keep her contained. Aster admits that she has some quirks, but her foster family will vouch for her. They say that what Aster lacks in the confidence department, she exponentially makes up for by showering the most important people in her life with massive amounts of love.

Before applying to adopt Aster, you need to be familiar with your local breed-specific legislation regarding Pit Bulls. Applicants must live within 50 miles of the Omaha/Council Bluffs area.

The suggested adoption donation for Aster is $215. We are a 501c3 organization which means that your donation may be TAX DEDUCTIBLE. Your donation goes toward the high cost of veterinary care for our animals in rescue, as well as providing supportive services to animals in homes.

Information about the adoption process: All adoptions require a completed ADOPTION APPLICATION. Once your application is approved, we will put you in touch with the animal's foster to see if you and the pet are a good match. If so, we will arrange a meeting for you and the animal. The adoptions for all of our animals will take place in the Omaha, NE area and must be done by the adoptive family in person. We do not ship or deliver.

Please Note: We are a RESCUE, which is different from a shelter. We conduct veterinary and personal reference checks during the application approval process. We always select the right applicant for each animal, based on the animal's needs. If you and the animal are not a good match, we will help you select another animal, or we will keep your approved application on file for 6 months.
