Meet Alfie/foster to adopt

Alfie is an adorable six-year-old Terrier mix who weighs about 40 lbs. He has a wire coat but does shed. He's a very active, sweet, affectionate, and curious pup. He is good on a leash and loves going for walks and car rides. He is very smart and has learned many commands while in our care. He loves to show off his Sit, Down, Paw, and Come commands. He adores his stuffed toys. Alfie loves other dogs but lacks some social skills, so he would do best as an only dog or with a patient doggy friend who enjoys rough-and-tumble play. A home with no kids or older kids would probably be best for him.

Alfie has been diagnosed with a condition called Diabetes insipidus (a condition that is very different from the type of Diabetes most people are familiar with), which causes him to feel very thirsty. He was started on medication on 4/12 and it has helped so much! He will need to be on the medication for the rest of his life, but luckily, it isn't expensive. He is up to date on vaccinations and will be neutered before he is adopted.

The first step in our adoption process is to fill out an adoption application here: medfieldshelter.com/adopt

If a dog is listed on our website, he/she is still available for adoption, but there may be applications ahead of yours. We typically receive many applications for every dog we post. All adoption meetings are by appointment. Our dog adoption fee for dogs five years old or younger is $350. Every dog we place receives age-appropriate vaccines, is wormed, treated for ticks/fleas, tested for heartworm, microchipped, and spayed/neutered before adoption. We send each dog home with a collar and leash. Please fill out the adoption application if you want to be considered for a dog you see in our care.

With very few exceptions, dogs are happiest and the most well-behaved when they receive daily exercise and ongoing training, so we always prefer to place our dogs with families willing to commit to both.
