Alba Collie & Retriever Mix Palatine, IL

Hi, I'm Alba. That’s Gaelic for Scotland but, actually, I come from down south. I'm a Great Pyrenees mix — maybe a little Collie, too — weighing about 55 pounds at approximately 1.5 years old. Before you even ask...yes, I am housebroken and will stand by the door and wag my tail to inform you I’d like to go outside.

When it comes to the crate, I do fine at night but I’ve taught my fosters to toss in a treat to lure me in (they learned very fast, I am proud of them). During the day or when the family is downstairs, I get distressed being alone in the crate. I’d much rather flop down near them.

I have no food issues and will take treats gently. I especially love hot dogs. Again, I’ve trained my fosters that I may perform commands for these tasty morsels (things like sit, give paw, etc.). I must admit, however, I can be a bit selective in responding to commands — hey, that's the Great Pyrenees in me, so I am not to blame.  

I am good on leash and walk easily but I can get a bit jumpy around busy roads and crowds. My fosters have noticed that I am a bit inconsistent with unfamiliar dogs — I appreciate slow introductions.

Also, I am a talented escape artist and will bolt if I can (it’s a great game but obviously could be dangerous) so even if you have a yard with a good fence, you will still need to keep an eye on me.

If we do not receive any communication from you, the dog may be adopted out at our event prior to 12 pm if the perfect home comes along. :-)

However, visual breed identification is unreliable. We encourage you to select your new companion by considering each dog’s individual personality and pet qualities instead of relying on a breed label that is only a guess. Dogs are individuals.
