Meet Alaska. She’s a cute ball of fur that loves to be petted and cuddled. Her foster mom says that she sees a glimmer of the sassy girl Alaska may grow up to be if she gets help with her confidence. Alaska currently uses the bathroom on a pee pad. While Alaska is great when outside, her foster mom needs to carry her out there, but together they are working on Alaska coming outside with the help of some cooked chicken (yum!). Alaska has a kind and calm disposition and will likely be good with kids that can respect her boundaries. When she is scared, she will pee on herself. She is great with the resident dogs, although she has yet to start playing with them. As for leash walks, Alaska can make it down to the end of the driveway to watch the world go by but does not want to venture much further. She does have a desire to be near people, and you will always hear her tail thumping away as she excitedly waits for pets. Alaska does great in the car.
Alaska spent her first 12 weeks of life outside with little socialization. While she loves other dogs, she isn’t confident enough to play with them yet. Everyday her foster mom sees the progress she makes, but it is imperative for potential adopters to enroll Alaska in a puppy class as soon as possible. She would also benefit from puppy socialization classes so that she can learn how to play with other dogs.
Adopters will need to be committed to continuing her socialization work, as Alaska will be a big girl. She would likely do well in a house with a large yard or an acreage and another confident dog that can show her the ropes. Due to her complex needs and past, we will make sure to place Alaska in a family that understands that she is a work in progress but has the potential to be an absolutely wonderful family member.
If you are looking for a kind and sweet girl, and committed to helping her blossom, please complete an adoption application for Alaska here: https://www.ruffstartrescuesociety.com/dog-application-form and one of our directors will be in contact with you via email within a few business days.
