Meet Adeline

**$85 in pledges for the rescue that pulls**

Adeline ACCT-A--161358 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Adeline must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER, EXPERIENCED FOSTER, OR RESCUE PARTNER by Friday May 3rd at 10 A.M. Should Adeline's medical or behavioral status change, her urgency and timeline for placement may also change.

Adeline is an approximately 4 year old female mixed breed dog that came into the shelter when she got out of her home and was picked up and brought to ACCT by police. Since she has been in shelter, Adeline has been very nervous around strangers and in kennel. Poor Adeline is used to a home setting and the shelter is a scary place for her. Adeline is one of the longest resident dogs at the shelter because she keeps getting overlooked due to her nervous behavior.

Adeline's friends at the shelter had this to say about her:

Per Foster 4/29:
I've been taking her out several times and gradually she's coming around and opening up to me .
She s a very low energy girl but she likes to explore when on walks. She's taken me to different locations on each walk we go on
She's initially shy but opens up so now when I'm sitting down next to her she likes to be stroked and patted.
Initially she didn't want to come out of her kennel but now she sees me she hops straight out without problem .
She just needs a patient adopter , and that person will be rewarded with lots of love once she opens up to you
She's a non jumper , very chill, low energy girl whose also quiet and likes to sit next to you and be stroked

Per staff 4/21:
"Adeline got out to stretch her legs today! She has opened up a LOT since I saw her last! When I approached her kennel she was already divided in the back half for cleaning. She was standing by the door, and looked up with semi soft eyes. I showed her the leash and she had a moment of conflict, where she started to flee, then stopped herself, then started again, then stopped. Ultimately she stayed by the door, and allowed leashing so easily!! No leash dodging!! She came right out once secured. Adeline walks really well on leash! She doesn't pull much and stays close. On our way to the yard we saw another doggie cold club member leaving the yard. Adeline's tail raised and she began wagging and sniffing toward the dog curiously, so we decided to do a meet. Adeline has had a meet before, and was pretty avoidant and nervous for her first meet. Today, she was much more curious and open! She had a mid to high wagging tail and sniffed the other dog nicely, but this time the other dog was a little nervous and gave her a growl. Adeline didn't react, and we ended the meet there. We were also able to get video of Adeline allowing some pets! She doesn't like to be unexpectedly touched or pet; if she's looking the other direction and doesn't see that you're going to pet her, she'll tense up for a second and slowly look back at you. Not a true head whip, but definitely uncomfortable. However, if you give her a heads up or come from in front of her, she accepts the pets with a neutral body .Adeline needs to give consent before being touched, which everyone should be able to understand! In the yard she never solicited or leaned in to any pets, but she did allow them without fear, which is a big improvement! In the yard Adeline wasn't super interested in me or toys. She sniffed around and alarm barked at something, I couldn't tell what, through the fence. She didn't fixate and would wander and walk away, barking every so often. When it was time to return Adeline walked like a super star! Completely slack leash, practically in a heel position, and never pulled once. She returned to kennel without issue. Adeline is opening up slowly but surely!

Per staff 4/11:
"Such a sweet, sad, fearful baby. Adeline was lying down on the backside of her kennel trembling. She looked up at me, but didn't come to the front of her kennel. I tossed some treats which she sniffed but didn't take. I closed the divider and went around, and she stayed lying down by the door. She low growled a bit with hard wide eyes, but just remained lying down as I slowly slipped my leash on. She exited right away and was a bit hesitant walking through the kennels but stuck by me. In the play yard, Adeline was doing some exit searching, was generally uncomfortable. She would briefly come and sniff me, but didn't solicit attention. She allowed me to pet her head, and held her face close to mine, gave me a brief lick as well, and then went off to do some more exit searching. She was trembling, lifting her paw often, and lip licking. No interest in toys or treats outside of kennel. We didn't stay out for long, and she returned to kennel without issue.

Per staff 4/9:
"Took Adeline out today to see if she is doing any better behaviorally. She remained very nervous in kennel and was tense and trembling. She stayed laying down for leashing and was growling, but once the leash was over her head she came out of kennel without issue. In the room she was tense and full body trembling with a low tail. She was also lip licking a lot, but her eye contact was a bit softer this time when interacting with her. She approached me on her own and sniffed my hand while giving semi soft eye contact and allowed some light pets on her back. She was nervous but is improving with handling and needs a very slow intro.

Per staff 4/7:
"Very nervous and tense in kennel "

Adeline is a scared baby that is looking to get back into a permanent home. We are confident that Adeline will blossom once out of the shelter with a stable routine and consistent place to rest her head at night. Could you give Adeline that second chance?
