Meet Winston

Please email adopt@newleashrescue.org to request a cat application.

Winston is 14 years old and was surrendered when his owner got two new kittens and he didn't do well with it. Winston is very scared of new things and fast movements. It took him several months to stop hiding when he came to his current foster home. He was also hiding in his previous foster placements. After about 6 months, when foster mom wore pants that made a swish sound for the first time, it took him several days to adjust and not scurry into hiding when she walked around. He needs a patient, quiet, laid back environment with no kittens and no young kids where he can come out of his shell in his own time. He still does not 100% trust foster mom after 7 months, but he’s made leaps and bounds of improvement!

Winston lived with other cats before and clearly wants to be friends with the other foster cat in his current foster home (the other kitty is not receptive to friendship; but is tolerating coexistence). Probably best in a home with another friendly cat, so that kitty can show Winston he can trust the people around. And probably best in a home without dogs. He didn’t do well in a previous foster home with dogs. As an older kitty, if he didn’t have previous exposure to them in his former home, he’s likely not going to adapt well to them now. Winston was overweight at almost 17 pounds when he came to rescue, which is not surprising as this kitty loves to eat. He has lost weight while in rescue, and his new owner will need to help him stay at a good weight for optimum health. Winston has a history of vomiting when he eats dry food, probably from trying to gorge it rather than dine (chew); but does fantastic on a soft food diet.
Winston loves to lay in the sunshine, so hopefully his forever home has good spots for sunning.
It’s obvious to foster mom that he has a mild mannered and good-natured personality.

Winston is neutered and had a recent dental cleaning, he is current on FVRCP and rabies vaccinations, FIV/FeLV negative, fecal tested, dewormed, and microchipped.

As part of our adoption process, vet references are checked on past and current pets and must be kept up to date on core vaccinations and annual exams. Resident cats must also have a negative FeLV test.

Adoption fee is $150+ tax (no checks)

Email adopt@newleashrescue.org for more information.

Our fosters do the best they can to provide all information about the animal's background and temperament while in foster care in their home. An adopters routine and home environment is likely different than that in their foster home.

Sometimes there is more that comes out about an animals personality once they have been able to settle in a home and truly become comfortable. There are great articles out there written about the different stages a pet goes through after adoption, discussing transitions that happen at 3 days, 3 weeks, and 3 months. We highly recommend reading about this - it will help you understand the transition your new pet goes through.
