Meet Smokey
Smokey has such an incredible story and we hope that after reading it, you'll give this very deserving boy a chance at a wonderful home.
Smokey was abandoned on our property at AHS/Popcorn Park back in 2013. He was in good condition, but was leery of people. After many attempts to bring him indoors, it was obvious that Smokey wasn't having it. We hated seeing him outside, but we did everything we could to keep him safe, healthy, and well-fed.
Over the years, Smokey became comfortable and he would walk right up to us in a friendly way, but he would stop just short of coming in. He made friends with our resident peacocks and would mush up against them and walk side by side with them! When a staff member was feeding Smokey in the summer of 2020, they discovered that he was injured. He had large puncture wounds on his back end. If we didn't intervene, surely Smokey's infection would spread, so our ACO Maria got him and brought him inside.
We are beyond happy to report that after several months of recuperating and spending one-on-one time with his caretaker, Jay, Smokey will never, ever live outdoors again. He has made a complete recovery, both physically and emotionally, and while he is still a little shy, he completely melts when you pet him and give him attention. He positively loves everyone and loves mingling with other cats too. He's ready for a home, and needs one where he can take his time to settle in. He's about 10 years old now and is a big, healthy, spunky guy that has many years ahead of him that he'd love to spend in a home! Call 609-693-1900 or email: office@ahsppz.org to meet Smokey.
