Meet SAMMY **Waiting Over a Year**

AGE: 3 - 4 years

DESCRIPTION: DSH - Red Tabby & White

LOCATION: PETS Shelter (114 W Main Street) - Panora, IA

MY STORY:
Sammy had lived in a home all his life but when he began spraying his owner wanted "to get rid of him" instead of simply having him neutered.
Fortunately, someone was made aware of the situation and contacted us for help before the owner could follow through with her plans to simply toss him outside. And just as we thought, as soon as he was neutered, the spraying immediately stopped.

Sammy was so upset (and we don't blame him!) as his whole life had been turned upside down and he lost everything he had ever known. He hid for months in his cage and snarled out the attendants and volunteers when they tried to interact with him. Knowing that he had been a friendly companion kitty we moved him to a foster home where he ever so slowly began to trust his foster mom and show his true self. It started with just talking to him and then engaging him in play with a kitty wand or laser pointer. His foster mom never thought he looked like a Sammy and nicknamed him Paul - and when you say Paul to him in a high pitched voice he responses with a little meow. Sammy/Paul really made huge strides when he became a foster dad to some scared kittens in his foster home. He played with them and groomed them and he could usually be found curled up with one or two of them at naptime. His foster kittens are almost full grown adults now and he still shares a hut with two of them at the shelter but he is also able to wander freely throughout the shelter. Although Sammy may need some extra time and patience to settle in to his new home and trust his people but if you give him that time (and know how to say Paul in a high pitched tone! LOL) he will be an awesome addition to your home. He's very tidy, low maintenance, and independent and is purrfect for someone not wanting a kitty that is up in their business - he prefers to be around but does not find it necessary to be right on top of his people. He may not be the best fit for young children or very active homes. Sammy has a beautiful buff/red tabby and white coat and stunning pale green eyes that will light up a room.
