Richard is a sweet young cat. He is goofy and playful and affectionate. He is gentle and patient. And HANDSOME!

Richard was picked up by one of our rescuers at a police precinct in the Bronx. Richard showed up one day by the church behind the precinct and people started feeding him. Our rescuer saw him and noticed that he was friendly so he decided to take him off the street.

Richard was brought to our rescue and he tested positive for feline leukemia. Feline leukemia is a cat only disease cause by a virus. It is mainly transmitted by saliva or blood. The virus commonly causes anemia or lymphoma, but because it suppresses the immune system, it can also predispose cats to deadly infections.

Cats with leukemia should either be the only cat in the household or live with other cats who have leukemia. Cats who are negative for leukemia can also be vaccinated against it and can share a home with leukemia positive cats. All Bronx Tails cats are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, tested for Feline AIDS and Feline Leukemia and are litterbox reliable and loving toward people.

We require adopters to fill out an application, have basic references checked, allow a home visit (to ensure conditions are safe and reasonable), and pay an adoption fee. We allow all adopters an up-to-2-week-long tryout period to determine if the cat is a good match for them. If not, we will retrieve the cat(s) and return the adoption fee in full. We will also help with tips and methods for introducing the cat(s) to other pets, if needed.
