Meet Minnie

Meet Minnie!

Minnie came in 11/9/23 for lethargy, loss of appetite, weight loss and inappropriate urination. CBC/chem/ua revealed she has diabetes, liver disease and showed muscle atrophy in her back legs. Donated insulin, antibiotics and denamarin (liver Rx) was sent home.

11/10/23 the owner brought Minnie back in for euthanasia due to not being able to afford adequate care for her. At the time of the appointment, a kind person offered to take Minnie and ownership was transfered over.

For the next six weeks, Minnie was brought to the vet for weekly glucose checks and insulin adjustments. 1/12/23 a fructosamine and liver panel was sent in and results came back showing her glucose was sitting in a good range and her liver enzymes were where they need to be.

Currently, liver Rx has been discontinued and she is taking 4unites of insulin 15-30min after breakfast and dinner. She is being fed science diet w/d to help with glucose regulation. She has gained almost 2lbs and her muscle atrophy is improving. She is at a healthy weight and feeling a lot better. Her personality is shining through and is very sweet.

She does great with her German shepherd foster sibling, doesn't acknowledge the foster male cat’s existence but does not like her female cat foster sibling. She might need a home with either only a male cat or no cats at all.

She does not like the vet visits, but I don't think anyone likes the doctor.

Future care for Minnie includes a glucose curve twice a year (no more weekly glucose checks provided her diabetes stays managed).
