Meet Megan

HEARTT Animal Refuge is assisting in the rehoming of Megan, a healthy 15 year old calico who lost her owner last year. Her current caretaker, granddaughter of Megan’s owner, volunteers with our shelter and lovingly wrote Megan’s bio which is shared below…

My grandma had adopted an elderly cat named Megan, thinking she would outlive it, but unfortunately this sweet 15-year-old kitty lost her owner last October.

Until Sunday, she was living in my mom’s basement, because she was not a fan of the two big dogs. Since that was not working out, and we hadn’t found Megan a new home, I was able to make arrangements for her to receive care at Heartt Animal Refuge. I am so grateful they have welcomed Megan, and I am still optimistic that we can find her a home.

Here are my observations from my time with her (in my basement) these past few days:

Megan needs a home with a loving adult who can spend lots of time with her. She has a sad expression, but she’s so affectionate. She loves her face and ears rubbed. She purrs every time it’s just the two of us.

I believe Megan needs a household where she is an only pet. I was hoping she was only afraid of dogs, but she was not a fan of my cats either.

Obviously there are lots of cats at the shelter, so Megan is currently in a cage that’s in a spot where the other cats can’t reach her.

Megan is content to be brushed, but she isn’t a fan of getting her nails trimmed. I observed her grooming herself, and she’s very clean.

She’s carrying extra weight, and she’s not very agile, but she can jump on low furniture. Megan has had most of her teeth pulled, with only four teeth remaining, so wet food is her preference.

Megan’s had a vet exam on Friday and her bloodwork was normal and her shots are up-to-date.

I’ll reiterate that I’m so grateful that we have the support of Heartt Animal Refuge.

*Must be 21 or older to adopt

** Our shelter has a policy to only adopt within a 50 mile radius so that if problems arise, the pet can easily be returned to the shelter.
