Louie Maine Coon & Domestic Long Hair Mix New York, NY

Louie is a young adult cat (approx. 2 - 3 years old) who is gentle, sweet and dog-like. He loves petting, people and a good lap! He is a Maine Coone mix - his fur is long, and his feet and ears are fully tufted.

Louie's rescuers had been feeding this cat for a few months. He was living in a vacant lot in Mount Vernon, but was always hiding in the bushes. One day in July they saw him hobbling across the street, and were distressed to see that he had a severe limp. We don't know how long he had been outside or when the injury occurred, but once they caught him, they took him to be fully vetted.

The long story short is that the orthopedist feels that Louie does not appear to be in pain. He has an old injury and at some point his front left leg was broken. It set improperly and is bent at the elbow joint, effectively locked. The decision was made to keep the leg in place as is. Although unlikely, it is possible that the situation for him will change. Whoever adopts Louie will need to monitor him.

Louie stayed in foster since July, in order to ensure that he was well enough to move on to a great home. He was shy at first, but over the last few months has blossomed. He always wants to be close by and is playful too. A pen, wand, feather toy or just about anything he could bat around will do. Louie can be wary of adult cats and should be the only pet in the home. He is capable of doing everything a normal cat does. He even goes up and down stairs. This cat will be a great companion!

All Bronx Tails cats are spayed/neutered (when age appropriate), vaccinated, tested for Feline AIDS and Feline Leukemia (negative for both unless otherwise noted) and are litterbox reliable and loving toward people.

We require adopters to fill out an application, have basic references checked, allow a home visit via video tour (to ensure conditions are safe and reasonable), and pay an adoption fee. We allow all adopters a 2-week-long tryout period to determine if the cat is a good match for them. We will also help with tips and methods for introducing the cat(s) to other pets, if needed.
