Katniss and Cato are a bonded pair. Their owner must now return them to BCCC due to changes in the home environment. She’s provided this information about them. “Both cats are somewhat skittish but Katniss has always been more reserved and will socialize on her terms. She is a shy girl, but also very loving and has great empathy. Sometimes she hides for a few days. It is important she has places to retreat to. She really doesn't like to be picked up. She will come to us and purrs, and lifts her butt, head butt, etc, but it has to be on her own terms. Sometimes if she doesn't see your hand coming she will hiss while purring, however she is not aggressive. She has great empathy because a few years ago Katniss began sleeping at the foot of my son’s bed every night when he was going through a hard time. They formed a special bond and somehow she knew he needed her. I think Cato will adapt quickly and Katniss will warm up a bit more slowly. The best thing would be an adopter who is experienced with shy cats, but she is also great with kids once she comes out of hiding. She just needs someone who understands her needs. Katniss is up to date on veterinary care. (last visit and immunizations were on 1/13/21). “She was spayed when adopted 8 years ago. She was born in 2013.
